Just talked to Roger at Dark International about buying a new Norinco M305. He mentioned that he has some in stock and would like to fire the rifle twice before shipping it out to me.

Is this normal with the other people that have dealt with Dark International?

Roger makes a good point in that he wants to know the rifle will extract and function properly before shipping out. I however dont want a possible used gun.

Any thoughts on this?

I can't help but think that given Roger's reputatuion that he only wants to make sure the gun is in working condition BEFORE you get, sometimes Norinco quality is spotty. would you rather a gun thats been fired twice by him or one that might not work (or have feed, headspace problems etc.)?

a lot of guns are test fired at the manufacturer before shipping- some come with evidence targets. pratice at the factory i believe is also to use proof (overpressure) loads to test them. I wouldn't be overly concerned. better he finds out if there's an issue than you after you get it.

I wish every Norinco I ever bought had been through thorough inspection and firing by a reputable gunsmith.......

yep,

rodger did the same with my rifle. Initially i thought maybe I would be getting a used gun but not to worry. My rifle came as new, in the norinco box with all that strange shipping crap all over it. As far as I can tell its just an extra step to protect the consumer and the retailer from any potential problems that may exist.

Enjoy your new toy!

Hmm ok. Thank you all for the quick responses.

It looks like Rodger has a good reputation with the group of people here. Before this post I didn't know anything about the company.

Never really bought a rifle mail order before so I was a little standoffish when he mentioned that the rifle will be fired twice.

Thanks to all who posted.

Yep, I would jump at the offer by a reputable and skilled gunsmith to fully function test and fire a new firearm before shipping it off to me.

Nothing more dissatisfying that opening a mail order package and having to immediately deal with problems.

I bought my first M305 from Rodger before he had the routine of firing the rifle twice before shipping.
At the range, the first shot went bang..... the second shot didn't work quite as well, op rod came out of the track
I called Rodger and he said to bring it back and he would fix it. I did just that, he fixed it then gave me the option of taking the repaired rifle or getting a new one. GREAT SERVICE!
He took my new rifle out and.... fired it twice:) ....flawless then and ever since. So you can see why he would want to test fire it before you get it. Believe me, you don't want parts flying past your face on the second shot of a new rifle.

big mistake.........

i didn't know that m305 are available from Roger. what i did i paid in advance one of the dealers here in Ont. I was told that they're still in the ship bound for Canada. if i've known, RK had them I could have started my m14 project earlier. i will even ask him to build my m14 project. i got all the gi parts ready to start. I was told, probably mid. of jan. of nextyear Ill have my norc m14.

I would love to have my personal gun cleaner and ginypig. If he offered to clean it and teste it for you you are laughing.

I do not know about you but cleaning a brand new gun is time consuming and just way to messy. I usually ask my Friend Valeri to do the honors.

Last week, I heard some guys at the range talking about some mishaps with brand new Norincos. If he si also going to test it for you that is one nice guy.

I would jump at the opportunity
