Bought a new hardwood stock set off ebay from England, from a crate of original replacement stock sets. These are oak I think?

I have been coating this stock with Raw linseed oil for 2 weeks now, every day and at least 3 times a day on weekends!! Still feels dry every day so on I go, don't think I can over do it. Stock likely from about 1945 so almost 70 year old wood is pretty thirsty.

I have some questions regarding marks on stock, trying to determine if \i can find out actual age and maybe where it comes from and if meant for a specific rifle?

stock has a crown, or horse shoe stamp (kind of looks like angels wings) over a 123 stamped into the foreend, also CE1967 stamped into the steel reinforcements, on the but stock is F50, over B15, over an arrow hopefully you can see them in the pictures.

Your stock is "Beech". F50 means the following "F" Fazakerley (British factory that manufactured the stock) and "50" (the year it was made 1950). CE1967 is CE Welstead; again post WW2 manufacturer of metal bits. Other stamps are inspector marks. Good luck with the project. Ron

Not bad, if I had a nice No4 Mk1 that needed some wood I think I would pick up a set as well. Unfortunately, I have two nice No1 MkIII's that need complete sets of wood that I've been holding onto for a couple of years in the hopes that I would find some suitable wood someday.... it's not looking too promising.

That will look really good when your done and have it installed. New wood always seems to pop up once in a while. I found a new butt stock in Toronto a few years ago.

I bought 2 sets, 1 has the hand guards just slightly different in color, the other one matches very nicely. I expect once I soak the second one the color match will be very close. Was very surprised at how little I had to do to fit the stock, had to use the bands from my old stock though. The bands that came with the stock are too small??

Hi Infanteer90

I,m in the same boat, bought a second #1 Mk3 in full wood as I couldn't find a stock for the one I have had for over 10 years. Still looking though.

EFD in the UK makes repro No1 MkIII and MkIII* stocks, handguards, etc. If I was going to do another I'd go that route. There is at least one fellow here who has gone that route and reports are that the wood sets are very nice.

You can say that again!

Got mine today. To me it looks as if there is more 'meat' to the stock than from one of my wartime stocks. Perhaps this is why the bands don't fit. What length of butt did yours come with. Mine is a small, and it already has oil in/on it, but it looks to have never touched a rifle yet. I'll just use my original normal length butt thought. It will look funny, but I don't care for looks so long as it is practical.

I am going to put the pieces in a wallpaper tray of RLO and let it sit for a couple of days. Let it drink its fill, take it out for a couple of days to 'sober up' and back in the drink.

If you got it from dean on eBay, he said that all his butt stocks are small. (i was going to say butts are small, but that sounded... odd.)

Actually the ad for mine didn't. But as I said, I will be using my original one.

Something else I noticed is that the middle band relief cut is out of center. I'll have to work on that before I oil it.

My Butt stock is the small one, asked Dean and all are small unfortunately. The middle band from my original stock fit great, it is also not as wide as than the one that comes with the stock. I had already opened up the relief cut before finding that the band was too small around. Still looks great though. I had to sand down the fore end and the front hand guard where they meet to get the front band on also but I think they likely over size these so the guards will be a tight fit. Great idea I think as it now fits nice and tight.
Still have to do the final fitting as I am testing the repair I did on the original stock right now and second guessing changing the stock as the repair is holding up so far before changing it over permanently. May have to buy another rifle for the old stock, or the new stock..... and another rifle for the other new stock I bought!! This enfield addiction is going to cost me a lot of money but how better to spend your leisure time than saving guns from BUBBA!!!

From what I have read the original treatment was raw linseed oil. Have also heard that at some time they may have switched to the BLO? I had RLO on hand and tried it out on my old stock first, works well and has not left the stocks oily or sticky.
