So I've always toyed with the idea of a lightweight pack rifle and now I have one. I was going to make a whole new aluminum stock for it but once I got started on that I realized there was no way I could make one as light as the plastic one it came with. So after some minor thought I came up with this nice little extension for it. All it requires is bending some aluminum tubing to the proper shape and bolting it on using existing holes in the stock(End cap held on with plastic stud and swivel mount). I painted it with car trunk spray paint which should hopefully cure up to be something like a truck bed liner(still a bit soft after 24hrs). I did add a shim made from an old leather belt to the top part of the extension to make it fit a bit tighter in the stock although it probably wasn't required. I did however drill the top hold a *little* off and as a result the top bolt tweaks the plastic somewhat. I'm sure it'll bite me in the ass on some facking cold day where I decide to abuse this little gun...but you know...lazy and all that. 
I was wanting to make the stock removable via wing nuts but the stud size is incredibly odd(12-32 machine screw). 5mm bolts fit loosely and I debated using something to supplement their hold on the threads but I've come to the thought that if I care that much I'll just strap a bloody allen key or two to this gun and use the factory bolts. Or weld a wing nut/allen key to the factory bolts. I'll see what I come up with.
One other thing I'm thinking I'll do with this gun is replace the plastic shell lifter with one made of aluminum. I got a chunk of it here that I'm planning on carving up at some point to make this so we'll see how that turns out whenever I get around to it. I'm debating just filling in the hollow on it with epoxy and calling it good but I think I'd rather tweak it some more as the fit of the lifter is a bit sloppy and sometimes catches a bit on the bolt.
Anyway onto the picture. Nothing fancy as I was going for lightweight. Not sure final weight but with the removal of the end cap and addition of aluminum I can't see this gaining much more than an ounce or two. Maybe three(I have no idea how much an ounce is in felt weight...). The Rascal in it's factory configuration with plastic stock is listed at 2.66lbs.
