"New" Para AR

Not exactly new - but more of a recycling of the ZM weapon system.
That metal collapsable stock has to go......

I'm always interested in firearms designs for both technological changes and end-user ergonomics.
One thing on first glance that strikes me is the folding stock. I suppose Para Ord/USA might have made this in mind for actual Para guys I suppose...however if need be, it would seem awkward to operate in the folded position. One couldn't access the bolt release and would have to pull on the charging handle.
I'd like to see how the folded stock hinders mag changing operations for the right handing shooter as well. Effectively, the user is probably going to have the stock open except maybe during transport.
I don't know...I guess I'm just not into retro-fit ideas to systems that really have no allowance for those particular ideas.

If they insist on that fugly stock, why the hell wouldn't they have it fold the other way?!?!
Lets see.....mag change? Nope. Bolt release? Nope. Fire control? Maybe....

Very true and that's the first thing that struck me as odd, other than their price.
Nope...I don't reckon our concerns would be solved with a stock folding the other way.
Given the current lack of ingenuity as already demonstrated, they would NOT figure out a way to design the hinge to fold the stock on a diagonal. Therefore, the stock would probably just block the ejection port....
And if they did ...they'd still miss the part about scalloping out the buttstock so that the shooter could press the mag release

Umm have any of you ever owned or shot an AR? the mag release is on the other side.... and the firecontrols are still open... only think you can't hit is bolt release... which can be done by cocking the charging handle which is still free and the more prefered "gunfighter" way anyways....
Not to mention if the but closed the otherway it would have to be like a g36 to allow rounds to eject threw it (taking away their ability for a foling stock) or it would block the ejection port cover from opening and the rifle ejecting rounds so you would experience a pain in the butt stoppage after one round, like what happens with mag sinches when the secon mag slips up.
Seems like it would work fine to me... I really don't think they would spend millions developing this rifle and not think that over....

Some of us commented on the current folded(TO THE LEFT) stock such that it would inhibit mag changes due to ergonomics and yes the charging handle would have to be pulled. Hmm...full length barrel, no stock and gripping with your right hand....may be a little unwieldy doing the rack efficiently, the 'gunfighter' way (where the stock is on your shoulder)....
Wrong Way questioned why they didn't fold it to the RIGHT. I joked that they would made a hash of it and block the ejection port and fail to design the stock to allow for the finger to hit the mag release....again as a joke, in the situation that they did reverse the hinge.

If you're changing mags how woudl a stock interfere? Maybe I'm issiding someint here, but when I change my mags I pinch the bottom of the mag, insert it into the mag well and slap the bottom.
That being said, I don't think it's intended to be shot with the stock folded, that's probably more for ease of storage, or to make it easier to move around when in extremely tight quarters (ie: mounted in an AFV or in a plane ready to jump)

Ya I'm pretty sure I read somewhere that Para bought Z-M weapons a while ago.
As I understand it, the folding stock is a transport thing, therefore a non-issue when shooting.
Having to "rack" an AR rather than hit the bolt release is the Silly way, not the gunfighter way. Non-reciprocating charging handle.
The entire operating system of this thing is silly. Essentially, it's got a six inch gas key, and they slide teh recoil spring over that.
reading the marketingese on the Para website about it made me shake my head, like the copy writers should have. You know, that "boing" sound right under your head when you're shooting an AR sure is distracting! What balderdash.
Para sucks.
