New Product: Strike Industries Linear Pistol Compensator!

I think it looks great but can someone clarify for me what a 'linear compensator' actually does?
It says it directs the output forward but does that not also happen without the comp? If it directs everything forward, would that not increase the recoil?
Forgive the questions but these are the little questions that bounce around in my brain.
That all being said, I still want one though at that price I'll have to wait for a knock-off. Champagne taste, beer budget.

I would think that it changes the recoil impulse and with the added weight, rather than have your muzzle flip up, might make it similar to the Alien where it pushes back into your palm. But moreso, it probably does nothing other than to give it some style points. Lol

It's a small expansion chamber for gasses, then vents to direct the gases forward. The application really shines in short barrel rifle calibre setups that help reduce/redirect concussive forces. All this without reducing sound signature else that would be illegal ;)
