New production CZ457... for better or for worse?

The thing is you can’t compare a higher end aftermarket match grade barrel to a factory mass produced barrel with a borescope. Doesn’t really matter which brand of factory rifle the same comparison would be similar. He thinks that barrel has machine and tooling marks he should have a look at a Ruger .22 barrel I have, machining rings from one end to the other the whole length. Looks like railway ties on a train track. The nice thing with the CZ 457 is it’s easy enough to buy a drop in match grade barrel. That’s what I would do, wouldn’t even bother going the factory stainless route.

I found it interesting that the guy who made the video seemed a bit biased against the CZ Barrel from the outset. When he had a couple of bad groups after a series of fairly good ones he said "that's definitely not the ammo". Interestingly in another one of his videos, he was producing similar groups with a fancy match barrel; it was the wind, not the barrel in that case. Take what he says with a grain of salt as that CZ barrel looked very nicely finished when seen through a bore scope. In fact, it did look lapped. The discolouration was likely from the test shots done at the factory that he mentioned. Watch all videos with a critical eye. He compared it to... Nothing.

Aside from the barrel what's everyone's thoughts on the plastic parts and loose fitting pins? Good, bad or don't care CZ using plastic parts?

The lose pin that holds the mag-spacer in can be fixed by about an inch and a half of electrical tape.

Both my 2017-455 and 2019-457 VMTR have plastic magwells and 6-out-of-7 plastic mags - NO Probs with any of that. Both rifles have ca 3-4K rounds each.

i miss having the CZ-527 line up the CZ-600 is crap
I have heard others that have found the 600 did not live up to the standards set by the 527. I have yet to see and handle one. I am not super convinced that the 457 is an improvement over the 455. Apart from a few nice features; the shorter throw on the bolt, the slide safety, and a recoil lug (regardless of what it's made of) are improvements. The more up to date styling is just window dressing that could be made for about any CZ.

A recoil lug is kinda redundant on a rimfire, so it being made of plastic now just gets a shrug. CZ barrel quality has had a wide variance for many years now, going back to the 455 series. CZ does do some sort of lapping process, they just don't offer a guarantee that the barrels are free of machining marks like custom barrel shops do. It's not perfect, but it's better than not lapping at all. There are other factors that are more impactful than the interior finish, you can't really claim seeing some faint tool marks is the cause of irregular performance. Did Kenny even slug it to evaluate bore diameter consistency?

I have yet to have a CZ that doesn't shoot really good, I currently have a 455 17HMR a 457 22 LR and a 527 in 223 and they all shoot great, had a 455 in 22 LR for a long time and it shot good also, I traded it to a guy for a model 94 in 30-30 because I had to many 22's, the school is still out for me on the CZ600 series, I am contemplating one in 6mm CM but haven't committed to it yet, I handled one and don't really like the stock, like everything out there these days there is good and bad reviews just depends on who you listen to.

I own a 457 LRP and it is a great gun. I'm in the market for a 16" 457 so I checked out the At-One version and I noticed that it is now manufactured stateside, the gun didn't feel as nice as my LRP

Normally, I would agree, but... I got my latest 455 really cheap because it not having a lug, it had been bumped on the but-stock and a big flake of wood was sheard off by the tang because of the over sized action screw holes. Bad design. The lug on the 457 should carry the force more effectively than the tang in the 455. Since I put mine in an Oryx, it no longer needs one.

Sounds like the previous owner neglected to pillar and bed that 455 😁

I miss the 527 rifles too.
I have a 7.62x39 carbine and a 223/556 lux and they are "never sells" for me. Excellent rifles.
One of the best lines cz has ever made imo.
