New pup on the ground

Congrats on the new pup. We also are getting a new addition in February, a Vizsla pup born a few days ago. We are getting first pick of one of the 4 males in the litter.

He is going to join our resident 5 year old Vizsla in the fun and games.

Cute little buggers aren't they? I guess we're both looking forward to papers on the floor and starting training in the spring.

Absolutely :) I usually try to crate/potty train them outside as soon as possible, so hopefully not much of the indoor paper. They learn so very quickly. We usually take our dogs for puppy kindergarten at out local Humane society its great for a supervised dog to dog socialization. Alas this COVID is going to screw that up this year. Nonetheless I am looking forward to puppy basic training :)

I gotta agree that 800 for a pup with decent bloodlines, is a damn bargooN!

Our Scottish Deerhound girly just had a litter of 11, and they were all spoken for before the breeding, at $3K per.
Our girly came from the same litter as the Deerhound that took Group Second at Westminster last year. Some great show lines, and a hoot to have around as a companion.

It's bloody near a full time job, and lots of money invested to get them to the stage where they are ready to go to new homes.

8 (that I can see) puppies at a thousand or so each...somebody's buying a nice new rifle I hope!!!

Have great adventures with your new dog.

Puppies done right cost about $400 each before they go home, it varies but that is a good place to start--first shots, health checks, deworming, tails docked if the breed requires it, etc. Plus the 24/7 attention the litter requires means when it is all said and done the money is about a $1 per hour. I have never whelped a litter, but I have two Weimeraners and the male has sired several litters and our female has had two, all done through our breeder that the dogs came from and it is a lot of work, those that get into it thinking they will make a lot of money are generally out after the first litter because of how much work it actually is.
