NEW PURCHASE LB enfield

Hey check out my new enfield. Its dated 1942 but i pulled the handguard off and the barrel stamping shows 44? Anybody have an idea whats up with that?

It's been rebarrelled. You can see the the marking on the knox form where the barrel wrench slipped.

Looks like you have a nice longbranch target rifle. I have one very similar to it right here. The barrel was probably change when the gun was made into a target rig. Mine is a '43 longbranch with a 55 Fazakerly agp barrel. Are there any markings on the muzzle end?

Thanks for the replies and I'll check the muzzle end. Does the 44 stamping refer to 1944?

Yes 44 should be the production date. Mine is stamped F55 for Fazakerly 1955.

No, at Long Branch, only the very early ones were serialed.

Almost certainly FTR'd at Longbranch before being made into a target rifle. LB, unfortunately, did not mark their FTRs. The matte finitsh on the rifle tends to support this. An original 42 would have been more polished and was blued to a somewhat glossy finish when new.
