New Range Rifle Help…..K31 or Mosin Nagant ?

Going to pick up some 6.5 x 52 Carcano ammo ($50 for 20) I ordered on Friday. I am looking for a milsurp that has ammo is stock. I love the k31, but is it really a lot more accurate at 200 yards over the Mosin ? The Mosin ammo is everywhere… And cheep.

I just need some swaying !!!! LOL thanks guys

I own a K31, a 91/30, and an M44. The K31 is easily more accurate than the Mosins, and also a far smoother action (and mechanically, really interesting). It's just a far better firearm on many levels. The trigger on mine is absolutely cosmic for a military surplus rifle.

But between the 3, my M44 gets shot the most. Partly because the ammo is so dang cheap. But also, it's just a really fun gun to shoot, not to mention shorter and handier.

And as for accuracy differences.... I can squeeze out sub 3" groups with the k31 at 100meters. With my M44, a little over 4". I'm not 100% sure the difference is due to "inherent" accuracy, so much as it's a factor of the better sights on the k31 and much, much, better trigger.

Either way, they're all great rifles, especially for the $$. You just can't go wrong with a decent Mosin - rugged and reliable, and plenty accurate for a bolt action rifle.

The K31's are the better gun. The only real concern is how long the surplus ammo is going to be available for, and it's a fair bit more expensive to start with, although still fairly cheap for a full powered rifle, and incredibly consistent and good quality as well.

So...

Screw it... Buy both.

LOL…. Both will come sooner or later… Is there a accuracy advantage between the 44 and the 91/30 grelmar ?

I have both rifles, and while the K31 may be more accurate, the rounds are not cheaper. I picked up several cases of X54r the other day for 199/case and was hitting 5x10 inch pipe gongs at 150 yards.

If you like to make noise and go bang, you can't beat cheap ammo.

I would say K31, as it is just a better rifle in general and the value will hold up better (it looks like the arsenals in Switzerland are finally starting to dry up so there are going to be less out there and the quality of the ones available will go down). However that being said I have 4 Mosins with a 5th on the way. The Mosin may not be the best gun out there but I look at it like buckleys, it may taste awful but it works. Both are fun, both have surplus available at the moment (though the Swiss 7.5x55 will likely disappear first which is why next paycheque I might go and buy a crate of ammo or two). Mosins can be very accurate depending on the ammo you are feeding it and also the individual rifle itself (each and every mosin has character, no two are exactly alike).

If you can afford both right now, get both. If you can only get one, get the K31.

It is much more accurate than any 91/30 (unless the Mosin is a sniper version-and even then I think the K31 will match it) and you will be pleasantly surprised by the condition of the mechanism and bore of the K31. The Swiss use a grease cleaner/preservative called waffenfett, and believe me, it keeps that bolt and bore nice and shiny!!!

I have a 91/30, M44, and SVT40, and none of those rifles' bores even come CLOSE to the condition of my K31.

The only hitch on the K31 may be finding the Swiss chargers for it. They can be hard to come by.

After reading EagleLord17's comment... I'm going to have to agree. The K31's are more likely to dry up before the Mosins, and so is the GP11 ammo.

GP11 seems to be sold out at most likely places already. I just picked up a K31 and it's in incredible shape. The trigger is also amazing. Haven't shot it yet but it feels like it could run circles around a Mosin in terms of accuracy.

If I had to go with one it would be the k31 myself. If your main worries are cost and availability of the weapon and ammo a mosin is the winner but if you want the better rifle hands down a k31, both are relatively inexpensive right now in the big scope of things.
