New Reciever for M14

i can think of at least one- wants to do a custom build and d0esn't want to use the rinco bits - there are also some old rincos out there with the angle grind on the scope mount - THE ONLY WAY TO SCOPE THOSE IS WITH A NEW RECEIVER- i've got one- maybe a 243 or 7mm/08 or 338 fed as well- no point in buying the barrel in 308 fir a barrel switch

Had the headspace checked on my norinco, It just barley closed on the No Go gauge... So If im going to do it up right, I want some good parts, barrel and receiver

If it just barely closed on a No Go, the rifle is fine.
Are you looking for a non-Norinco receiver? Norinco receivers are pretty well thought of.

Hungry had a receiver on the EE last week I believe. If it's headspace issues you don't want a receiver, you want a bolt. A couple of thou over headspace is nothing on an m305, when you get to .020 then you worry. The other option is to buy one of the krieger barrels and have it headspaced to your bolt and life is good. A TRW bolt will set you back almost as much as a krieger barrel these days and the barrel is a lot easier to come by.

I have a perfectly good stripped TRW M14 receiver for you. The catch is, it'll turn your rifle into a 12(3) prohibited firearm. :kickInTheNuts:

email me if you want to sell that 12.3 receiver hehehe I have a buyer for you.

also, everyone mentions TRW bolts...... nothing wrong with the other usgi bolts, ex H&R, Winchester and original springfield (not current springfield armory but the original usgi springfield)

correcting , or improving headspace is effectively done by replacing the bolt. headspace in the norincos or poly's of recent manufacture/assembly (last 6 years) is NOT a receiver or barrel issue, it comes down to the bolt and how the lugs were cut. Save yourself some big coin and simply source a bolt that is tighter. Lapping in a usgi bolt will give you tight headspace, in the commercial .308 range. And a hint to all you guys looking to replace the original bolts with usgi ones...... avoid buying a new in the wrap usgi bolt.....find a quality used one, they lap in much nicer.

Perhaps the solution is to get a well made American made forged receiver (e.g. LRB); problem is: can we get these or their type here in the Dominion? Perhaps some enterprising Canuck manufacturer can step up to the plate. From what I gather from the forums, there should be a market for them.

Headspace that is excessive by SAAMI standards is quite common on these rifles (or even GI M14s). If the bolt only just barely closed on a NO GO gauge, it probably won't close on a Field Reject gauge, which is the real SAAMI maximum. There is no known case of one of these rifles failing solely as a result of excess headspace.

Your rifle is fine as-is, but if you want to tighten up the headspace for brass life, fitting a GI bolt is the way to go. As long as the headspace is less than .010" over minimum (as it probably is in your case), you can still get away with full-length resizing without overworking your brass. The alternative is to work around the excess headspace by neck sizing only with brass dedicated to the rifle.

LRB recievers are pricey..... the last build i did using an LRB receiver was a rifle that the owner spent 4000.00 building. no kidding. The reciever was about 1600.00 canadian landed, imported thru QUESTAR.

Now... here's my thoughts on this whole receiver thing...... the norinco/poly receivers are excellent and there IS NO NEED to replace them. They are hammer forged with a rockwell hardness meeting or exceeding original USGI military specifications AND despite what some would have you believe..... are in fact corectly machined to blue print specs for the usgi receiver..

problems with the chinese receivers..... they could have a nicer finish and you can't take them across the border to shoot in any m14 matches.
and that's it.

so it comes down to how much money you want to burn and nothing more than that. There is ZERO gain in accuracy or function by replacing the receiver. So unless you are participating in matches in the U.S. and need to be able to export your rifle to the states to shoot those matches...... buying an LRB receiver is simply burning money. BUT if you want it..... i ain't gonna tell you not to buy it hehehe they are purdy. :D

ONE advantage that the LRB M25 receiver offers is the integral dovetails they machine into the receiver forging to encorporate there scope rail system. An ingenious solution to the M14 scoping issue.

Me, i'm happy with a norinco forged receiver with an ARMS 18 scope mount..... and i've saved myself about 1000.00 over buying and importing a LRB.
as LAZ says..... your personal mileage may vary :D
