I finally got myself a Remington 700 SPS AAC in .308 and I'm excited to make it into a good precision/hunting rifle. So I wanted to get the community's opinion on best rail and fully bedded stock to replace the original one.
Not worried about the scope right now.
I slapped mine in an old school plain Boyds walnut stock then bedded it with Marine Tex
I used a Redfield single piece base and rings with rotating front ring and screw adjustable windage on the rear ring to save clicks on the scope dial when bore sighting/zeroing.
Scope is a Redfield Revenge 3-9x40 with the Accurange reticle/distance finder and drop comp dial with zero stop turret.
Stock trigger just lightened to around 2 lbs pull and just a little slack how I like it.
Nothing fancy. It's been a great setup so far. It's no safe queen, it's already got some bad scars from taking out in the bush quite a bit on treks and target shooting.
I'm getting under MOA with commercial quality 175gr's. The best I have got so far where I actually wanted to break out the calipers was 5 shots in 0.69" inches at 100 meters from prone resting on a bag.
I have not duplicated that though. Mostly around the 3/4" to 1" range with very solid consistency. Very consistent rifle.
I'm no precision shooter though, I shoot no more than 400-500 meters max around here and all I ever wanted was a rifle that i could hit an 8" square plate with consistently and every time out to around those distances.
I love the rifle and design. Simple, rugged, reliable. It could probably shoot much better with better optics, better ammunition and a better shooter lol But I'm not into chasing the really expensive accuracy dragon.
