I finally got myself a Remington 700 SPS AAC in .308 and I'm excited to make it into a good precision/hunting rifle. So I wanted to get the community's opinion on best rail and fully bedded stock to replace the original one.

Not worried about the scope right now.

Thanks I posted a bit early I guess. Searched and found the M40 stock is a good option. Not sure about a rail though there are a few out there. Would get steel rather than aluminum.

Not to be rude, but search. Covered 100 times.

Shibbs, this is not the way to endear a new shooter to our hobby...

On to your question - a lot of people really like the rails from EGW, I think they come in steel or aluminum, the HD version is steel if I remember correctly. As mentioned by Shawn_338 most rails are the same. With that said though I really like the Near MFG rails, yes they cost more but they are of very high quality and made right here in Canada.

The B&C stocks are OK and can be had at a good price but the McMillan and Manners stocks are much nicer. I would hit the EE to see what they have.

Best of luck.

No, its not, but it's a well known etiquette on internet forums. Search before asking. A quick google would net weeks of reading if so desired in about .017 of a second, rather then waiting a day to get an answer. So actually it's helpful information. Google! Or use the little top right search feature of EVERY internet forum.

TPS, Nightforce, ATRS, and the ones already listed, etc. All make good rails. Don't go cheap. Steel or aluminum up to you. Doubting mounts or problems shooting is the last thing you want to do. Weight on a precision only rifle is not necessarily a bad thing. Be aware some competitions have weight classes.

Keep an eye on EE. Some come up for sale with 50-75$ worth of savings.

Most stocks should still be bedded for cheap improvements.

If you were in Calgary I'd let you borrow a B&C medalist stock with adjustable LOP and lead added to butstock. I also have a ATRS and TPS rail kicking around. One aluminum, one steel. Sadly shipping on these items would be rediculous.

EGW makes a good base for the money, and several site sponsors sell them. For stocks, I've used both bell and Carlson and HS precision. Both with good results.

Not worried about the scope right now.

I slapped mine in an old school plain Boyds walnut stock then bedded it with Marine Tex
I used a Redfield single piece base and rings with rotating front ring and screw adjustable windage on the rear ring to save clicks on the scope dial when bore sighting/zeroing.
Scope is a Redfield Revenge 3-9x40 with the Accurange reticle/distance finder and drop comp dial with zero stop turret.
Stock trigger just lightened to around 2 lbs pull and just a little slack how I like it.

Nothing fancy. It's been a great setup so far. It's no safe queen, it's already got some bad scars from taking out in the bush quite a bit on treks and target shooting.
I'm getting under MOA with commercial quality 175gr's. The best I have got so far where I actually wanted to break out the calipers was 5 shots in 0.69" inches at 100 meters from prone resting on a bag. I have not duplicated that though. Mostly around the 3/4" to 1" range with very solid consistency. Very consistent rifle.
I'm no precision shooter though, I shoot no more than 400-500 meters max around here and all I ever wanted was a rifle that i could hit an 8" square plate with consistently and every time out to around those distances.
I love the rifle and design. Simple, rugged, reliable. It could probably shoot much better with better optics, better ammunition and a better shooter lol But I'm not into chasing the really expensive accuracy dragon.

I bought the EGW aluminum 20 moa rail but haven't tested it yet. Been looking around for the B&C M40 stock but nobody carries them in the Vancouver area. Also looking for a good optic around the $700 price. Can't wait to get it all ready and take it out for the first time. Thanks to everyone for the suggestions.

Prophet River stocks a bunch of B&C stocks and Redhawk Rifles in the US will export them. All said and done with our dollar, final price is about the same. The A2 is a great stock if shooting prone most often.

Thanks everyone. Would a Vortex PST do the job up to 1000m? If so is it better to get an MRAD or MOA?
Maybe something cheaper will do the job?

If you are capping at $1000 for your scope you should look for a used one, there are a lot of good scopes worth more than a grand for sale for alot less than they paid for them and most have unconditional warranty's so broken isn't a huge concern, not that your going to buy a broken one but some people are freaked out by used, but it will get you a higher quality scope in your budget jmho

You have a good point. I'm ok with buying a used one but I don't know what a decent scope is and what isn't. I am looking at the Vortex PST because it has everything I am looking for. And how much real difference would, say, a $2500 Leupold MK4 make vs the Vortex at the distance I'm shooting? I don't think that it's that much. And I also don't want to hunt around forever for a used scope I want.

don't mean to high-jack. But is the SPS a good precision rifle? I bought one because they were cheap for hunting and threw a bushnell elite 3-9x40 on it. I'd LOVE to make it into a precision rifle since I rarely hunt with it, but thought it wouldn't be a good platform to start on.
