Hi i am looking for answers. I just bought a brand new 700 police in .223 we cleaned it real good before taking it to the range today, i fired the first round of factory 55 grain federal ammo and the primer was flowing back into the firing pin whole also i had a hard time to close the bolt i had to force it hard and there was alot of brass shavings on the bolt face. there is also scratches on the cartridge from the primer end to the neck. I fired about 10 more rounds no difference. Would like a gunsmiths opinion?? I hope they replace this gun i am unhappy with it this way. Thanks Mike

Check the bolt face. You'll probably find a recess around the firing pin hole that matches the protrusion you've been seeing on your primers. This seems to be a new "feature" on recent manufacture Remingtons. Haven't heard a good reason yet as to why its there.

Thats exactly what it is. The hole for the firing pin is too large. Most SPS are that way. There was a recall on some, that you could take it to a certified gunsmith and get a new bolt installed.
