Heard this from work that the Remington R15 VTR Ar is non-restricted??

Price is going to be in the 1K range..Can't wait to see if it is true.

Heard this from Wholesales Sports Edmonton staff who are buddies & this came directly from the store firearms manager.
If they're mistaken, is there another new semi auto .223 & .204 from Remington? No!

If this is true & they passed it as a non restricted AR..Merry Christmas!!!

Non-restricted and in the 1K range - they will sell a boatload of them.
Maybe it would be worth contacting the good folks at the RCMP in Ottawa who review and classify new firearms coming on the market and ask them.

Keep in mind that although Remington's name is on the rifle, it is actually manufactured by an affiliated company - whose other ARish products are restricted.

No it ain't you .
Arma-coat would probably make as much as Remington if it were non-res .
But I think pigs will fly before that rifle is non restricted unfortunately .

i just dont think the guys at remington are smart enough to play all the cards they needed to get this non restricted but hey like everyone says i will buy 2 if non restricted

Do you think that Remington even considered the possibility that non-restricted status would enhance sales in Canada?

And realistically what changes could they make that would have resulted in non-retricted classification? Conversion to slide action?

Fastest way to resolve this uncertainty would be to contact the good folks at RCMP Headquarters in Ottawa who make these rulings.

Given the small size of the firarms market in Canada, I'd say that making an AR type design specifically aimed at being-non restricted in Canada would be pretty low on their priority list. After all, if it added $50 to the price tag, the increased sales here in Canada wouldn't even come close to the potential decrease in US sales from the price increase.

We need to remember that we're a tiny market in the large scheme of things. Most of the time the best we can hope is to ride the coattails of larger markets.

of course not but a simple play of marketing could have done it. Look at the sig situation the rifle is in everyway the same as a prohibited one but the document say its a variation of an earlier desing. Simple marketing move saying this is a variation of the xm-15 or some early prototype and not an AR variant no one in the US would have given a flying #### and it would be non-restricted here

Restricted

They will be restricted. I talked again to my friend that worked on the project and he says Remington is thinking about making a California legal version. I do not know as of yet if that would put it into a Canada non restricted version as I do not know what California law is but I did pass on that although the market is small there would be a market both north and south of the border that would like a non restricted version.

California version might have a non-detachable internal magazine. Pop the pin, hinge it open, load magazine, close it up, push in the pin. Or, use a separate tool to remove the magazine.....
These modifications would have nothing to do with status in Canada.

The law pertain to AR-15 variants (doesn't say anything about M-16s) How ar ethey not Ar variants? but whatever, they still shouldn't be restricted

I urge you to dig out the actual OIC and read it yourself. Are you so sure the OIC actually said AR-15 variants? My last read of the OIC it refers only to M16, not AR15
