New Remington R51 in 9mm announced!

This is a very exciting little pistol in 9mm that shares many features with my favorite HK P7 pistol. Fixed barrel, low bore axis, single action trigger, grips safety (no safety levers), single stack, metal frame (aluminium). The most exciting part is the completely unique hesitation locking system that was designed by John Pedersen. The barrel is 3.4 inches but extended barrels will surely be available as this pistol will be of great interest as a suppressor host because of its fixed barrel that eliminates the need for a Nielsen booster device. Barrel is fixed but easy to remove and replace. Its great to see a metal framed pistol with a novel locking system resurrected in todays sea of polymer, modified-browning tilt barrel pistols. Also of note is the US MSRP of $389!

If this little pistol is very successful perhaps Remington will also resurrect the scaled up Model 53 .45 ACP pistol that was lighter and had less parts and proved to be more accurate, reliable and had less felt recoil then then M1911 in Army testing.

Reminds me of a Savage 1907(1910?) it has the same delayed blowback type lugs. All that's old is new again!

At that time, Savage seemed to market this pistol to husbands to buy for their wives to defend themselves with, while they're grinding away at the office! LOL! .32acp..."10 shots quick" was the advertisement. I think Savage made them in .380 and .45 as well. Let's see Remington make that model into a .45 and then they'll pique my interest!

Not that aesthetics are relevant to this pistol's intended purpose, but I don't like the extra "style" lines on the slide, either.

I don't expect that this will be a quality piece given the MSRP, but good on Remington if it is.

Reminds me of a Savage 1907(1910?) it has the same delayed blowback type lugs. All that's old is new again!

The Savage pistols were quite different having a simple rotating barrel delayed blowback. The new Remington R51 is based on the older Remington Model 51 and 53 pistols. They are essentially locked breach with only a tiny amount of initial bolt movement that allows the transfer of momentum to the slide, which later pulls the bolt from its locked position to unlock it.
