Don't know if you guys have seen this one or not or if it will ever be available here or not but it looks kinda fun. Real mall ninja look to it. Probably never see them up here but who knows. Probably just a regular 597 in "tacticool" cloathing. :)

If I am not supposed to have the web link go ahead and delete it. I tried to disable it.

They've got the money and ability to do so much better than chucking on an adjustable stock, pistol grip and a ff hand guard. I hope no one got paid for coming up with that 'idea'.

Someone at Remington was giving the effort to come up with an item they percieve is popular... looks a lot like all those 10/22 kits, but likely a lot cheaper (and better built maybe??). Anyone know pricing? I have never seen this one before...

After looking closer, it is a drop in type kit (factory installed).... yes Remington would have the resources to design and make a full blown ar style (non drop in), but then it would cost $900 and the interest would likely not be there...

I don't think they'd need to produce another ARish type .22 for it to be popular, a drop in kit with a bit more imagination would've been nice is all.
But whatever, i'm sure it's fun to shoot.

I'll give them credit for making it and trying to be innovative. It actually doesn't look that bad....but how well do these things shoot and are they reliable?

597's are like 10/22's. Love em or hate em. not much in between. The VTR has yet to be released up here, so no report will be available. I did however read on another site that they were heavy and unbalanced, then the author claimed it was very comparible to most other "kits" which tend to ruin the balance of the factory gun.

They got a pretty bad rap when they first came out do too some poor mag designs, but that has since been alleviated with the release of the third gen mags.

They are typically tack drivers, still a bit ammo selective, but what semi Rimfire isn't. Out of the box the arguable shoot better and faster than 10/22's. But the aftermarket support for them simply is not there, hence Remingtons release of the VTR. There are more full-size rifle like in there balance most would agree, compared to the 10/22.

I have a Heavy barreled version, aside from some new advertised coatings inside and the 16" barrel, it's the same thing. I love mine, it's a blast to shoot.
