The best deer hunting rifle I ever owned was a 700 Mountain Rifle LSS in 260 Remington. Sold it to a friend who was severe shoulder/back issues and had problems handling recoil.

They basically are replacing the TI's ... no magnum caliburs from what i see. I will tell you i stroked one in the store ... Not beatable for the money when you take the over all quality ,
" Composite stock " SS 700 action , weight and price in too consideration. Seriously considering one for my GF in 7-08. I was really happy remington got that rifle on the shelf for $1000. Just filled a major void in that price range IMO.

After holding that rifle im still stunned that they are 6.25 lbs with a composite stock for $1000 ... you are going to be very happy congrats.

This is coming from a guy that has an Alaskan TI in 300wsm and an Original TI in 7-08

I will add that sometimes guys have trouble getting those light weight Rem barrels to shoot good. I have one one my TI 7-08 and my Dad has the same barrel 0n his Mod 7 7-08 and we have done a couple others ... The answer is they like to be bedded futher up than one would think. If you struggle with it ... not saying you will, but if you do i can ask my Dad exactly how many inches they like to be bedded past the lugg... I think its around 4, I will check

I aquired my 7-08 from a guy for $1000. Im sure he thought he was dumping a dud on me, especially when a guy from a local sporting good store told me the rifle shot like sh*t, and the guy had struggled with it for years. I couldnt take it from him fast enough, I knew exactly what was wrong with it. Dropped it of at my dads he whipped up some pillars on the lathe and for $10 in bedding compound ... SUB MOA gun

I actually just ran into a Sheep giude the other day and we had this same conversation. He has a Custom Alaskan titanium that he put a #1 conture on, chamber in 300 Ultra... I was shocked when he mentioned 300 ultra in a #1 ... he proceeded to tell me it was a tack driver and the secret was to bed the narrow barrel up further ... I laughed told him i was on the program.

Actually called my Dad ... no pissing around, Exactly 5 inches past the lug. Its a long ways but its where those narrow barrels like it

T3 Lite SS are available in that price range and weight and for a little more money you can find a Kimber Montana that weigh 3/4lbs less. So I kind of looked at them differently. IMO, the Remington Mountain Stailess Laminated for the selling price of ~$750 seemed to be a better way to go. They do look good and I do like M700 actions, just that I didn't really see that void.

I've got an older SS-M700 Mtn rifle (.270Win), in factory tupper-ware; it weighs 6lbs 10ozs. So this new rifle is 6lbs 4ozs?

I have a rem 700 XCR II in 280 Rem. Absolutely love the calibre. The best all around cartridge IMHO. Best chambering for the mountain rifle. Value will only go up as well. I see less and less 280 Rem being chambered every year.

Cant stand those Kimbers, Although they are pretty good guns not a Tikka guy. Maybe thats why Rem got these guns out, Get their piece of the pie. Your right there is a couple modle's out in that price range and weight that i had over looked.

I was off , looks like its 6 pounds 8 oz's ... The stock is composite, not tupper ware. Big diffrence in quality

My Alaskan TI is 6 pound 4 OZ's. Although it is a 24 inch #4 magnum contour, I love the rifle to death.

I have a 280 Remington in a Model 700 BDL SS that I bought in 1998. Had it bedded and free floated.
Guntech build my 260 Remington on a 700 action. They are my two go to hunting guns but all my centre fires are 700's.
