I have a 1/4" chambered rifle. I need a 6.5 or a 7mm next. Just fleshing out the collection.
I don't see a lack of 6.5mm options, only the 7mm enables you to employ heavier bullets, 175 grain for example. I believe that the 7mm provides with more flexable loading opportunities.
you said you wanted a paper punching deer/heavy varmint rifle. Would you use a 160 or 175 grain bullet in a 7-08 for deer, over a 140 grainer?
I believe the 6.5mm provides more flexible loading for varmint/deer/target85 grain Sierra HP, 90 gr Speer HP, 95 gr Vmax, 100 gr Hornady SP, 100 gr Sierra HP, 100 gr Nosler BT for vermin...a dozen different 120-140 grain bullets suitable for deer, and plenty of match bullets with high BC from 107 gr to 142..Sierra..Hornady..Nosler..Berger...
260 would get my vote
One thing I am wrestling with is that if I am hunting moose and deer, then I could always carry my .30-06.
Now the guns are all coming out... You have a.25, .3006, and a .375.
So skip the bigger cals and get the
