I have a wickedly accurate Browning A-BOLT s/s synthetic..It wasnt always this way BUT after Alberta Tactical got done with it its awesome..

However I took my 10 year old LEUPOLD VARIX scope 2.5-10 scope off it to put on my new Sako .338

SO now I need a NEW SCOPE for my Browning .270 which will ONLY be used for sheep, deer maybe goat...here in BC..so some of the shots may be 300-400 yards

I am unsure WHAT is best out there for a "MOUNTAIN RIFLE "

I was leaning towards the NEW Leupold 3.5-10 vx 111..in BOONE & CROCKETT reticle and after a 2.5" sunshade and the rubber occular cap and flip up Leupold guards..the bill is almost $1,000...

The SWAROVSKI HABICHT AV 3-10x 42 also in 1" tube wiith 4 plex reticle is $1250 without flip up covers...

Both have the reticle in the second image plane..

What do you guys think..

Thanks in advance..

Ditto the Leupold. If it's going to be a sheep/goat rifle, strongly consider the 2.5-8X36 model VXIII with the B&C reticle. It's a little more compact, plenty of magnification, and the reticle calibration worked perfectly in that model on the 7-08 I had one mounted on.

You will not be disappointed!

I looked through the KAHLES..Swaro..ZEISS and leupold bought the LEUPOLD VX111 IN 3.5-10...40MM

I also bought a new sleeping bag, tent and rangefinder...

so with the new HIGHTECH tent, bag andself inflating sleeping mat for pack in sheep..those 3 items came in at UNDER 8 pounds combined weight

Thank you for all the advice.

Steven, give me a shout. I have a used Leupold 3-9x40 VariX II for sale you may be interested in. It will be a a bit less than $1000.00 ;)

Oh BTW I have your SPOT sitting here on my desk if you are looking for it. We were so impressed with them that we now have a few of our own.

You looked at the Zeiss with the Rapid Z reticle? It gets my vote to the best long-range reticle for a mountain rifle.

sheephunter yes i did.....

Boo too late..already bought..same with rangefinder tent and sleeping bag..lol

I am home...

I picked up a LEICA 1200 rangefinder...lol STILL dont believe the damn #'s...:p

I picked up gear for my solo hike in for stone sheep hunt..

sleeping bag is 2.2 pounds and rated to 0 Celsius..

tent is superlite 3 season From Mtn Hardwear... 3 pounds 5 oz two man..room for stormy rainy boring days trapped inside a tent..

sleeping mat is 1 pound 9 oz so with stuff sacks and "footprint " for tent it ALL comes in under 8 pounds not bad at all.. of course $$$$$$ to do that lol

I am hoping to keep my total pack weight for solo 12 day hike in to UNDER 50 pounds..I know I sure have lost a lot of $$$ to do so..
