New rifles delivered for Canadian Forces sniper teams

“The initial delivery for the new C20 7.62 mm Semi-Automatic Sniper Weapons occurred in November as planned,” Department of National Defence spokeswoman Andrée-Anne Poulin confirmed to this newspaper. “With the delivery of these first systems, we began the training activities for the weapons technicians and snipers as well as the final technical testing which will be completed by the end of this month.” The remaining C20 deliveries will commence and be completed in the new year, she added. The rifles were manufactured by Colt Canada and will be used by sniper teams as an auxiliary weapon. The 272 rifles and spare parts will cost $8.5 million.

The price tag looks outrageous, but the contract price has absolutely every expense included. The full cost of the project office, the spare parts scaling, the ordering and warehousing, and the lifecycle maintenance. This is how DND pays its bills.

Oh and the training and manuals.

People fail to realize its not just read the user manual or lookup a YT video.

Sure, it's a nice rifle... But still.
- How many spare parts/maintenance are they expected to do on this?

To put things into perspective, notwithstanding a "volume" discount. $32,000 would buy you
x6 LWRCI REPR rifle
$2,000 worth of spare parts

It's the Canadian Forces.... So more then needed.

They made a separate license and course for Silverado painted green with a diesel, that was separate then the gasoline powered Silverado.

Yeah... But all the soldiers having to take the training are on the army's payroll, not GM.

- How many WPN Tech will realistically have to (be allowed to) work on these?
- Colt Canada will be training the soldiers on the use of these? I doubt it...

On the bright side, while their bargaining aptitudes have probably not improved much over the years... At least the procurement dept. is at least buying decent stuff...
- As opposed to the raingears that weren't water resistant... among other things...

My AR's have been specially housed in a climate controlled environment, protected from theft and fire, with spare parts for MY lifecycle with maintenence, minimum yearly cleaning and oiling, I had to procure it and provide receiving services for it.

Only sounds fair I get $32,000 for each from the buy back.

The contract signing is a good benchmark for an approved purchase contract. Have at it!
