Well I went and finally got my birthday Rimfire! My birthday was on Saturday and I hated having to wait but today I went and picked one up from the guys at Chilcotin Guns!

I was trying to decide on a Savage Mark II G or the Mark II F in .17 HM2. I was REALLY leaning towards the "F" (loved the looks allot more) except the price of ammo. The .17HM2 was $20 for a box of 40 rounds I think it was and $23 for a box of 500 rounds for the .22LR.

So I finally went with the "G". I noticed that the "walnut" stock appears to be synthetic as it has a really plastic feel to it although the Savage website lists the stock as "Monte Carlo style walnut finished hardwood stock with cut checkering".

For anyone buying a Mark II "G" it does NOT come with scope mount bases. It's already tapped for them but they aren't included.
 
I have a savage Mark II G, the reciever is grooved for dovetail scope rings. You can get mags from WSS, they're about$16, I bought 3 extras, nice for a busy gopher field.

From what I was told all the brand new Mark II's come without grooves and tapped instead. The Mark II's that DO NOT have iron sites come with base mounts already installed.

Thanks for the heads up on mags! I tried doing a search on the WSS website and the mags aren't coming up anywhere.

That's kinda cool actually, weaver mounts are better than dovetails...too bad they don't give you the mounts though. Believe it or not the stock is some sort of wood(I managed to put a big chip in my stock) its a very light coloured wood though under the finish so I doubt if its actually walnut though.

WSS new's website sucks pretty hard. give the store a call, they should be able to help you out.

Thanks for the update with WSS!

Yeah I was told the weavers were allot better and it does suck that the Mark II's with iron sites don't come with the mounts. Two mounts were $5 each and then off course picking up 500 rounds of ammo added $35 to the price of the gun. :D

I forgot to mention that my Mark II "G" also came with a cable lock which is nice!
