I've just noticed that the new Ruger Guide Gun will have 338win as one of it's options. Also, it comes with a tread protector so that you don't have to use the muzzle brake. This means that I can have a Ruger M77mkII type action with great iron sights in stainless with a 20" barrel, and in 338win... Jackpot! :dancingbanana: This is exactly the combination that I've been wanting for, I'd even written to Ruger asking for it last year.

Now who is going to be selling these in Canada and when? I need one!

If you take the spacer out and remove the brake, I think it would a substantial improvement. Too much calibre for a small rifle, though. I think the .338 RCM would be a better choice of calibres in that rifle.

The .338 RCM was available in the Ruger Compact Magnum, which looked much better than this guide gun, imo. However, it looks like Ruger dropped it from their lineup.

I just bought a Savage Hog Hunter in 338 magnum Much shorter than my Ruger M77 300 win mag and would appear to be much handier in tight corners

Ammo price killed the 338 RCM before it grew any form of legs.... Spewin really as its a calibre i could do with!

Rugers getting funky with the rifles they are producing these days, albeit if they run for -3 years.... then discontinue, an take the next avenue.

cheers

how do you like the hog hunter? would there be alot of muzzle flash with the 338 mag(20"barrel) and is the barrel as thick or heavy as the .223 hog hunter?? I was thinking about buying 1 in 308 win

thanks

Its a great gun comes threaded for a brake but I don't think I will put one on.
I do not know if it is the excellent recoil pad but it seems to have much less recoil then my Ruger M77 in 300 win mag and I like the iron sights. It is always good to have 1 or 2 with irons

I had a Marlin 1895gbl as well as a Savage 111 338 WM with a 20" shortened barrel, of the two I preferred the lever, the Ruger weighs over 8 lb and although I usually prefer laminate stocks and Ruger rifles, for the weight factor and the ugly factor that needs a synthetic stock.

How much $$$ would it be in canada for the savage

I was asking Prophet about these last fall in .375, but jumped on a African I saw in January. Definitely post pictures and some feesback!

I know what you mean! I want one of these in .375 or .338WM. The .338 would be a lot easier to find ammo for but there's just something that makes me want one in .375 Ruger. And it isn't Gatehouse.

The Canadian Tire now sells some guns but no proper gun shop in town.

As for the stock, the laminate wood seems much better now that I have my hands on it but I'll still test in out in the canoe paddle stock when I get the chance.
