New Ruger precision in 22 cal

I'll tell you what cracks me up... the masses are clamoring for cheap shyte... and the masses are clear, they want it CHEAP. Ruger caves like all of the other big producers and gives them what they want... a CHEAP rifle... and in return they get; "My bolt sounds like a zipper!" (Insert image of child stamping feet and screaming).

You want cheap? Then you don't get finely milled and jeweled bolts or deep bluing or grade III walnut or seamless wood to metal finish or fiberglass/carbon stocks... you get what you asked for... a tube bolted to a chunk with a pin on a spring that goes bang.

I'm inclined to agree. It's an exercise in "managing one's expectations". :) I'm personally looking to see if this gun is capable of CZ-level accuracy. It'll take some convincing...and an opportunity to fondle one, but if the accuracy is there and it doesn't feel too cheap...I may be on board. Same goes for the Tikka. Same goes for the CZ457s if they've moved back to 452 sensibilities. Probably only going to be one of them for me in 2018 though. Sort of want it to be the Ruger, but there are more questions than answers on all 3 of these new guns.

What I want is a bolt that had actually had some finishing done to it. There a solid lines on the bottom, it doesn’t move very well in the receiver. That’s not being cheap, even Savage does a better job( prices relatively the same )

Well I have seen some targets with 1/4 inch groups at 50yds shot with one of these rifles using Eley ammo . I also was reading a post from some one that claims they were able to hit a 12 inch steel plate at 500yds with his.

Then get yourself an anshutz..... or a ruger 77/22...... or a CZ American...

Sure, savage bolts are “smoother” than Ruger American bolts (so I am told, I don’t buy shyte)...

The savage also has an overly expensive mag coupled with a crappy plastic mag catch, among other faults....

You get what you pay for.....

I’ve got a 1712 Annie and about 13 CZ’s, 4 Henry’s, 5 Brownings. I do know quality and what to expect, I was just hoping Ruger would up their game, they can’t even seem to drill their receivers of the 10/22 straight. The only Savage in this house is a Model 24 made a long time ago with the solid 2 barrels no ugly air gape,no stupid barrel selector on the hammer.

Then you should know what to expect in a “precision rifle” for less than $800...... just because it’s 22, doesnt mean it’s cheaper to Produce....

I am a ruger fanboy, and stay away from Americans etc...... because I don’t want a low end rifle

I may try one of these just for fun...... and if it doesn’t meet my expectations, off it goes.....

I think it might make a good silhouette gun because of the pistol grip and adjustable stock. Not sure about the round fore end or the weight. Looks like it would weigh well over 7lbs with a scope. Personally I prefer a lighter gun for offhand shooting but it depends on the balance.

As far as the "precision" part goes, it's still a .22 and subject to the inherent limitations of that cartridge. It is not going to have any miraculous long distance capability and likely will not be able to outshoot any number of premium and bench rifles. But MOA accuracy, or close to, would be quite adequate for silhouette.

Looks are a matter of personal preference. I like oiled walnut and blued steel too, but I also find the modern design idiom appealing if well executed. I'd like to handle one of these before buying, but I suspect they're going to be flying off the shelves of the LGSs.

Nope. Not pinned or press-fitted. :)

Ruger’s website said:
18" target barrel is cold hammer-forged from 1137 alloy steel to create ultra precise rifling for excellent accuracy. Barrels can be replaced easily by a competent gunsmith using AR-style wrenches and headspace gauges.

just found a vid on youtube showing detailed tear down including barrel removal. I'm Impressed youtube.com/watch?v=Q69XGrr7HvA

lol 2 words that don't go together. Ruger and precision.

I beg to differ sir, these groups were on an outdoor range with some swirling wind conditions
