New Ruger SR9 - first time out on a range

First time to post;

Finally paperwork completed and of to a gunrange (PoCo). Tried 2 types of 9mm ammo. Factory 124gr Blazer and 124gr reloaded ammo (Custom Reloading in MR). Reloads felt less of a kick back in hands. Even thought they should be "the same" (FMJ,124gr round nose ammo).
Small adjustment to a sights. On the very last mag load got a FTE (only half way out). Quick mag release and thing got out by itself.
Very, very pleased with feel of SR9 and grouping on 15yds. Now looking for deals on 9mm ammo.

I love my sr9, I have had a little bit of trouble with it though. After about 300 rounds, it would light-strike almost everytime.
Turned out it was the magazine dis-connect slowing the striker down. Now that the dis-connect is removed it fires perfectly :)

I have one on the way!! Im stoked and cant wait! Dont mean to hi-jack the thread but does anybody know who stocks sr9 mags? Or the ghost trigger mod?
 
First thing you should do is throw that magazine disconnect out. It's super easy to remove. I ordered a spare mag from Brownells for $33 IIRC, bout half what some places wanted in Canada. They wouldn't ship me the Ghost trigger bar though due to export licenses...
 
Lever Arms has SR9 mags at $40 each.

Removal of the mag safety is SOP for a lot of SR9 owners. My wife is going to try both 'in' and 'out' to see if it makes a difference.

Ruger says the gun digests all factory ammo. Reliable in Vancouver has bulk 9mm at a good price. Name your brand and bullet weight.
 
What is a good price on 9mm ammo now-a-days in Vancouver/Lower Mainland?
What quantities you have to buy in order to get a deal?
IE Blazer 115gr FMJ 50pack/14.99$+tax

Hey I just got one too!! Love it so far. Out to shoot it tomorrow.

I've already done a detail strip with a minor polish on some parts. Removed the mag disconnect.

I hope it shoots as good as it looks!

I have a line on SR9 parts, (ghost trigger reset bars, polished trigger parts, springs, op rods, metal striker indicators etc), and they ship to Canada for fairly cheaply. Its called Galloway precision.

If anyone local(lower mainland/Fraser valley) finds a real good deal on 9mm fmj/tmj, let me in on it pls.

Sorry to hijack, I just thought it was cool that more guys were into the SR9.
 
$260/1000 seems the cheapest I've seen around here atm.
I was talking to a guy who bought 4000 or 5000 9mm from reliable and they gave him 30 bucks off /1000. Just have to negotiate I guess.
 
been twice with mine too. Decently accurate at 25meters standing. Quite good at 10m standing. Very reliable so far. I limp wristed one, in the name of zen relaxation...
 
how is the trigger on this thing....im getting rid of my p226 to move on to cheaper ventures...looking at a steyr (m9 or l9) or this....or possibly a glock....only thing that concerns me is the trigger on this :)

Well the SR9 is strikerfired, unlike the p226. I much prefer the single action trigger feel of my CZ shadow over my SR9.
Have you held a SR9 yet? The grips are alot smaller than on the sig.
 
I bought one last year and sold it this year. It was a POS throughout. Trigger reset kept sticking. Sent it back to Ruger for fixing and it came back same as before. I may try another sometime later on, after all the odds of getting a second lemon is like getting hit by lightning twice, right?
 
I bought one used and I have to say it's a great 9mm and I really like it. I also have a 22 1911 and a Tokarev, and I must say I like the grip of the SR9 the best. It is more accurate than I am at the moment since I am really new to pistol shooting. I too am looking at Galloway precision for some nice add on's.

I know it's low price may put some people off or have them turn their noses at it, but for what most of us need it for, causal range shooting, it's perfect for my needs. I don't need a $900 gun to shoot twice a month at the range. I spent $450 all in for it, so I can put the money saved into ammo now!

That's the first lemon SR9 I've ever heard of. Guess there had to be ONE out there somewhere!!!:p

I love mine, and I've never bothered with taking out the mag disconnect (don't even know how). It shoots great and I can count the number of malfunctions I've had on one hand without using my thumb and pinkie finger! :D

For the new SR9 owners, shoot about 300 rounds through it and you won't need to have any trigger work done. The trigger smooths out remarkably with use. Those 3 malfunctions I mentioned were FTE's in the first 100 rounds. That tells me that the gun just had to be broken in before it reached its potential.

If you don't like the Glock (for whatever reason), the Ruger SR9 is a great alternative, at a great price IMO.
