i just got a new ruger BLACKHAWK in 45acp/45 colt convertible and the rear sight blade broke- entirely my fault- dropped the thing on the concrete range floor and the right side leaf broke off- just the way it hit- i can get a new blade out of quebec for 3 bucks plus ship and taxes, but how do i get the old broken blade out?- i've had the windage screw out, the blade goes all the way over to the right, and i know there's a spring in there - probably a simple enough thing to do if one knows a trick- i really don't want to ship it to quebec for just a 3 buck part that somebody can install in 10 minutes - also does ruger make various size rear blades?- i've been shooting this with 45 acp and i've got the elevation cranked up all the way and it's still shooting 5-6 inches low and right- i'm thinking i need a higher blade- i'm using a 200 grain bullet ahead of 6.2 of ww231- worst case sceneario , is there a gunsmith in calgary that can do this?

I have the same revolver and I don't have a problem with the sight adjustment for .45 ACP but my load is a 200 gr SWC w. 4.5grs of Bullseye. I don't think different blade height are available from Ruger, maybe there are aftermarket ones. One solution may be to decrease the height of your front sight (i.e. get out the file).

got the blade out, thanks- there's a detent on the leaf that lines up with a hole in the sight and the leaf lifts out

t-star,
Where do you get the rear sight blade from in Quebec? I need one also, for different reasons. It's good to know there is a Canadian source the way ordering parts from the States is now. Thanks.

snapshots@videotron.ca- i worked with a carole petrie when communicating on this- be sure and dig out your parts manual and familiarize yourself with it BEFORE you speak with them- they're professionals and don't appreciate time- wasters- an e-mail will do and they got back to me every couple of hours or so- we were all done by end of day-

- don't really want ta do dat, gun only a month old-jan 26- darned fool thing has the tallest front sight i've ever seen, though, .7 or thereabouts measured from the top of the barrel-on a 5.5 inch barrel-what's your'n?

I don't have my Ruger handy at the moment, but I will measure the height over the weekend and get back to you. Yes I agree it's one of the ugliest tallest front sights I have ever seen, other the ones but on the old JP Sauer Western Sixshooters now they where fugly!! I think a pair of Vaquero's is in order!

i ve been on the ruger site, and i just can't see them making that kind of mistake and it getting out of the factory- it's got to be right- if'n yours is tall too, it's got to be my load that's throwing funny- anyway, if i'm using 45acp i'll just give it too much front sight rather than lining up the sides with the blade- kind of a "kentucky elevation' or swag
