New S&W M&P 9 Woes

Actually no mine drop fine. They were having the somewhat related problem of being so tight they caused function probs though. I had to hammer the mag in with my hand and it seemed to be knocking the slide back out of battery.
But you are right it is a different problem likely caused by the same parts. So i do not know it my follower fix will correct the mag sticking.

I ordered a new mag release from Brownells to solve the mag sticking problem in one of my M&P's. I think the original mag release had a molding problem. In any event after I replaced the mag release the sticky mag problem disappeared.

I must have some kind of amazing luck - 8 magazines, 3 totally different generations of followers, not one problem with function, not one problem with loading to capacity.

Good on you. The offending mags are the dull black ones. Mine came with my 9MM Pro. Two other IDPA members here at our club had the same issues when they bought their 9MM Pro models and solved them the same way. I look upon this as an annoying inconvenience, something S&W could solve quickly if they were motivated to do so. In fact they may have already. It isn't the type of thing a company is likely to announce. I am told the new 9MM guns have 1 - 10 twist rates, an improvement over the original 1 - 18 twist rate. I don't recall seeing that announced either.

How do you determine the generation of the followers?? What is the difference?

On my, the three that came with the range kit has grey color follower with rough surface and one of them is the problematic follower. The 2 extra magazines I bought has grey color follower as well but the surface is smooth. So which one is the newest generation?

All my magazine can load to 10th round without problem, just have to push down hard with the Lula loader for the 10th round or hand load the 10th round.

The original followers had the "long" legs, the next gen are similar to the current ones, in that they are the 'skirted' follower, but the top is the same as the old ones (no 'break' at midpoint) the newest are skirted and have a break at the midpoint and have the caliber marked into the top of them.
