The new ones are just fine. The only thing I would say is better for me on the older models is the grips. I do not like the newer grips as much as the older ones. The new grips are slimmer then the older ones and they don't fit my hand as well.
I have a new one and like it very much, but I will be replacing the grips - too skinny and too smooth. I have to re-establish my grip after every shot.
An excellent counterpoint to an 1873 SAA
Now I just need a (Uberti) Model 3 Russian
I picked mine up from Shooters Choice (2014) BTW - great guy
I agree with the grip comments, for target shooting they are too slim, but not too bad for double action work or holster. I found the new one my buddy bought would shoot 5 rounds into about 1.75" at 22 yards with winchester cowboy ammo...so no big complaints on accuracy. I haven't shot an older one...i'd love to find one for the stable.
Lately Smith is putting those hokey locks on their revolvers and some even have the insert for a barrel. No thanks. Sold my new 629 cause of that. Got a Ruger Redhawk instead.
