I picked this up a few weeks ago.... Sako Finnlight in .308, VXIII, 2.5-8. After 1 day at the range, I was impressed, to say the least:cool: . There is an obvious preference for premium ammo, (the 1st target, 2 groups) and the standard loads, (2nd target 1, 5-shot group). So instead of spending the $$ on premium all the time, I'm going to start loading for this cal soon.:D

Thats just factory ammo! Try a neck sized once fired out of that Sako with the 150's which it obviously likes and see what she'll do. The high B/C will help you groups by the looks of things. What was the Federal 180 ammo?

The 180's were just the cheapy softpoints. I have some 168 gr supreme silvertips to try in it, but I think I'll try and load the 165 tsx when I get my loader.

Does anyone use 150gr BT's or Silvertips on deer??

I had that same rifle in 270Win. Like an idiot I sold it after a couple hunting seasons cuz I was broke. What a friggen nice gun they are. Congrats on the great rifle friend.
Do you find yours is really loud? Mine sounded like a magnum going off, everyone around me thought so too.

This rifle is sweet to shoot and it pulls up great. I don't know how loud it is, I was wearing muffs :D . I always wear them, unless hunting.

Good looking rifle, just bought a .243 and .300WSM from fellow CGN's in the same:D . See yours has the Key Concept locking system, stupidest thing Sako's ever done:mad:. Just sent the bolts down to Whitby to get that dam locking bolt feature taken off. Check out the Hornady 165 gr. BTSP light mag for the .308, 2900fps/3000ft/lbs, best factory ammo you can get.

Nice rifle..Ive just bought that same in a 7mm mag and am topping it off with a Zeiss Conquest. Im yet to decide on what rings to use?? Ive been thinking of Warne rings or Leupold, Ive been told the Optilocks are pretty high which I don't like on my hunting rigs.

Cheers!!

I don't intend on using the locking bolt, but is there any reason for me to remove it??, or just cosmetics??

Very nice group, from a very nice rifle! Hope you enjoy hours of tight groups at the range with it! Be sure and take pics for us all when you take a deer with it too! Cheers!

I didn't think Leupold had 2 peice mounts for the sako, as its not drilled & tapped. If they do, it might be a lower setup and less $$. I know they have a 1 peice QD base, but its over $100 too.

Sako Optilok rings and bases are very solid-expensive to say, but are superior in my books. I never had to adjust my scope n my m75 SS 300WM in 9years, until I started reloading.
I use low rings on my Sakos and T3 Tikkas. I put an extra low set of rings on one of my rifles but found I had to change my position holding the rifle, which I did not like, so I replaced them with low rings. You can easily use the extra low rings with a 40mm scope with ADJ OBJ.

My friend also has a Sako m75 SS 300WM but has Millet rings. They seem to be holding up ok. I just dont like them personally.
