I was just checking out the Savage website and found some info on a new small frame varmit rig called the Model 25. It appears to be a model 40 with a detachable mag at first glace, but does anyone else have any info on this rifle?

Thanks,

Overall consensus (savageshooters.com) is that it is a beefed up 40 so that 223/204 type cartridges can function properly. Other then that no one knows as none are out - certainly none in Canada.

If you look up reviews of the 40, you will find that it is a nice functional varminter. Quite light and decent accuracy. The action is a dead end design and not something any smith is likely to work on.

So you buy it to shoot it as is. They are supposed to be value priced and if anything like the 40, that will be right between the Stevens and Savage.

I think Savage will sell a ton of them as walkabout varminters/coyote rigs.

Think a much better looking Savage 340.

too expensive for what it is. Ditto for the model 40. I was pretty sold on a model 40, until I had the chance to handle it. And over the past year or two, the price has gone up by a good $200.
