Take the 308 and dont look back, most versatile and probably the most accurate, those Savage are good... JP.

Dunno.... They pretty much came out the same time as the Savage 116/16 Bear Hunter model... And those are all over now.

I did noticed that the lightweight hunter in some pics, has checkering.... And in other pics.... The stock is smooth with no checkering though

So who's got one ? thinking about picking one up...need another rifle like a whole in the head but who knows this one might stick....either a short action in 260 or 6.5 Creedmore or pickup the long action and get a 25-06 AI barrel twisted on it ? :)

handled one at cabelas in wpg, I was really impressed. really light, fit me well, and I thought the wood was amazing for the price. a sharp looking rifle for sure. pretty sure the one they had there was a 6.5-284

if I hadnt just been on a bit of a lightweight rifle binge lately, that thing probably would have been coming home with me.

definitely the nicest stock I have seen on a savage yet. in my opinion
