Dunno.... They pretty much came out the same time as the Savage 116/16 Bear Hunter model... And those are all over now.

I did noticed that the lightweight hunter in some pics, has checkering.... And in other pics.... The stock is smooth with no checkering though

So who's got one ? thinking about picking one up...need another rifle like a whole in the head but who knows this one might stick....either a short action in 260 or 6.5 Creedmore or pickup the long action and get a 25-06 AI barrel twisted on it ?

handled one at cabelas in wpg, I was really impressed. really light, fit me well, and I thought the wood was amazing for the price. a sharp looking rifle for sure. pretty sure the one they had there was a 6.5-284

if I hadnt just been on a bit of a lightweight rifle binge lately, that thing probably would have been coming home with me.

definitely the nicest stock I have seen on a savage yet. in my opinion
