So this rifle caught my fiancee's eye a long time ago but at the time I was more focused on AR's than rimfire but for some reason I spent the last week or so really considering buying this rifle. P&D had one listed on their site so I went in yesterday and it was gone! So I looked around and found some in .22LR and .22 WMR but I wanted .17HMR and I found one at Wild West at WEM and oddly enough it was actually cheaper than at P&D and Cabelas so I grabbed it up.

Took a ride to Cabelas today (first time going there) and man was I blown away, it was an awesome store. Picked up some Hornady 17gr V-Max ammo along with a Nikon Prostaff scope and some stainless steel rings for the savage.

Looking forward to getting out on the weekend and testing her out!

Congrats on the new Savage~every one I've had has been a real shooter! You're in Edmonton..so this is a target, or a gopher gun? :)
 
My girlfriend wants the same rifle in .22LR. In her words, it's "pretty". ;) (It's on her list of stuff to buy right after a pink handgun when her PAL comes in.) Saw one at one of my local shops last week and it definitely is a nice-looking rifle, and if it's anything like my Mark II F, it's gonna be a tack-driver.

I'm definitely interested in hearing a range report on this puppy!

High-power paper-puncher...I like it! :) I'm too cheap to use anything but a .22lr for target shooting..or at least, I starting to think that I am.

I'm headed out your way for a gopher hunt this coming summer, and was talking with my buddy who lives near Calgary. I told him I might have to take the scopes off the rifles so that they both fit in the case, and will need to sight them in once mounted out there. He said "cool, we'll sight them in on gophers". I asked if meant paper targets, then go hunting. He didn't. :)

You should have seen the smile on Hungry's face first time he came gopher hunting with us "Country Boyz". I believe his comment was "my buddies back in Ontario won't believe this".

I have a buddy who is getting his PAL and wants to go gopher hunting, I may head out with him and give it a try. Friday or Sat I'll get out to the range and see how she groups and toss up some pics.

You aren't near Calgary are you? :) Well, my buddy only got into it last year, but is a pretty into it now. (a grateful farmer appreciates his "work" too) This year will be, I think, my 4th year groundhog hunting in Ontario. At day's end, we always seem connect on the phone, and the conversation goes something like this;

ME: "MAN, had an awesome day. Saw 6 today, walked about 10kms, got 4 shots-off and went 4/4"

HIM: "Dude, I brought 400 rounds of 17gr. HMR with me today... and RAN OUT. Total distance walked~about 300 yards"

So yeah...know anybody hiring out there? :) I love groundhog hunting here, it can be a real challenge/rewarding but still... :D

I love my savage 17 hmr. I use it for all small game hunting.
So much better than my .22, I dont see the point of hunting with the .22.

Id rather shoot birds in the head at 100 yards. Seems gross, not that I like killing animals, but if you shoot a game bird in the chest with a 17 hmr, you aint eating anything but feathers.....

That's very true.
 
The BSEV is a nice gun. I have one in .22LR. I was able to get .3-.4" groups at 50 yards using SK Standard Plus off of a bipod, so i'm pleased with accuracy. I love the pistol grip feel of the stock and don't mind the looks. However, I found the comb was a little low to get a proper sight picture. I am, however, using a EGW picatinny base that adds some height to my scope. So I decided to buy a Tacticool from Boyds and I like it even more. My fiance loves the evolution stock, so I will hang on to it until we buy another savage for her.
