New scope defect?

So after what seems like a never ending wait for my Sightron scopes to be in stock I finally got it in the mail today.
I look through the scope and notice the odd dot in the upper left section - My initial thought was there must have been some dust on the other end, after swiping both ends of the scope with the cleaning cloth I take another look and there it is again ...

Both the objective lens and the eyepiece lens look just fine from the outside. Could this be a defect and if so is this enough to justify a replacement? This is a SIII 8-32 X 56 LRMOA in case that changes anything.
I apologies if this is a common knowledge question, I'm still new to the sport. Any input would be appreciated.

Thanks

It's definitely something on one of the inner glass elements.. I'd take it back and request they fix it or replace it. Push for replacement because there's no way they fix it for you in-store without depositing even more crap inside, and I'd argue that the reason this occurred is because there's likely a defect. I say this not in the perspective of the shooting sports (where this would annoy the hell out of me), but from the perspective of buying camera lenses.

look through the scope from the OG to the ocular end. (reverse view) If it is dirt you will see it ...
Sometimes a bit of caca drops off from threading in the cells and attaches itself to a lens during shipping ect. Put the scope on something that vibrates a bit such as a dehumidifier and see if it disappears. You would be surprised what comes out of some scopes
when you open them up.
It is not right but it does happen and would probably not be seen during final inspection.

I followed both of your advice, looking through the objective lens toward the ocular end everything looks fine. I can't see any chips or dirt on the Objective lens and turning the ocular lens dosen't make the dot turn so I would assume it's from one of the internal pieces of glass...
In hopes of dislodging the dirt (if it is dirt) I left it on a working washing machine for 40 minutes with no visible difference.

I guess I will be packing it and shipping it back tomorrow, I hope they won't hassle for an exchange...

Looking from the OG into the scope should have shown up where the dirt or particle is. Hmmm, Might be a spot of dust between the elements of the lenses. Achromatic lenses are two pieces of glass glued together.
Well, we tried.
cheers,

The occular lens focuses on the recticle. The dust particle is in focus, thus it is on the reticle, and the reticle must be an etched glass component for the dust particle to be stuck in the left upper quadrant.
