New scope for my Stag....flame on!

Okay, so I can't afford a S&B short dot and I had to give my borrowed one back to Kev. So, I needed an optic for my Stag recce build. Well I got this off the EE board here for 1/12 the cost of the short dot.
It is made by Sunclear, which is located in China or Taiwan (not sure which) Anti-commies let the flaming commence!:D
Specs:
-1.25-4 x 26mm optic
- illuminated mil dot reticle. (copy of the Leupold Mk4 reticle)
- nitrogeon purged
- 30mm tube.
- shock and water proof
So, I mounted it up and set the eye relief. Looks good on the rifle anyway. To totally upset those who are in the know:rolleyes: , I mounted it in a Larue 1.93 mount. (which cost at least twice what the scope did) Oh the humanity!
I will get it out to the range this weekend and report on how it shoots. It may have not cost $1000's, but for what I need it for back here, it'll work.

who cares..if you like it you like it...as long as it works right? I bought a clone Aimpoint ages ago..I put it in a Larue mount costing double..

All I gotta say is that Larue mounts are the best..
 
Screw the puritans, some of us are broke!

I slapped one of the ACOG knock offs on my rifle and so far so good. Mind you, being in the city hasn't given it much work out. Not many coyotes here.

Hoddie, don't let anyone get your goat on the scope. If it works, and will continue to work under the conditions you expect it to, then who really cares what it says on the side of it. I own two old Weaver steel tube 1.5 to 4's, they like very much like the "short dot". They are great so far. The one I changed the reticle in to a duplex, and it has as clear a glass on it as any Leupold I have owned. Have fun.

Okay, back from the range. The scope overall is well built. The lit reticle is very bright with 11 settings. I zeroed it at 50m and once I got it on paper, it was very accurate. I had to dig up my marksmanship principles in order to get tight groups, but in the end, it held it's zero. I fired 200 rounds through it. Most as fast I could, so I could check the effect of recoil. It did stay on target. After that, I moved in for cqb shooting. At 10m and under the reticle was hard to pick up. Even with the crosshairs lit up, it was hard to see at that distance. At this distance, I just shot with muscle memory anyway. Would I need a red dot this close? Yes it would help, especially if I was tracking a moving target.
So what is the conclusion? I think this would make an excellent scope for a hunting rifle, but on a fighting rifle it lacks the ability to be used up close. I am looking for something that will give range and target discrimination as well as up close shooting capability. The Larue mount is great and if you can find one, use it for all your scopes. Return to zero is perfect.
I think this scope may find itself back on the exchange forum, I think I will be keeping the Larue mount however. I might look at the Acog and doctor optic combination.......

OKay, so the scope is gone now. It has been replaced by an Acog TA01NSN model. Range report and review to follow. Now, if I can just find a Larue mount and a Doctor optic..........
You knew I would find my way back.......
