Hey!

I really hate to be "that guy" but I'm at a loss here. I just came into a used Leupold 3-9x40 rifle scope, which I would like to put on my Stevens Model 300 .22 LR rifle.

The problem is, I know sweet frig all about scopes. The only shooting I really do is Military surplus and scopes are really out of my area of expertise. I've read the sticked thread but I'm still not 100% on what I need to be doing. I know I need bases, mounts and rings to attach my scope to the rifle, but what I don't know is if these need to be proprietary to the rifle? If so, I would really appreciate if anyone could help me out. I know my rifle comes with the holes drilled into the rifle, so that won't be an issue, but that's about as far as my knowledge goes.

I'd like any help I could get. Recommendations for what I should buy, where I can get them, all of that.

Thanks! I hope I'm not overlooking a thread that addressed this very issue but I couldn't really find a lot of info.

-Andy.

its pretty simple... You will need eitehr a) a single peice base or b) two peice basses to fit your modle of rifle. then depending on what style of base you choose, you will need rings to fit the rail and the Dia. of the scope body.

install the base(s) place scope in rings and install ring caps. (<-- thats the simple version of how to install)

IIRC- the stevens is just the econmy version of the savage MKII series and any of the mkII basses should fit it just fine... DONT quote me on that i could be wrong im sure some one who knows 100% will chime in

One thing to consider, the scope you have is meant for full-bore at ranges from 100 yards and further. This means you will likely have parallax problems plinking with the .22. Yes, you can adjust the parallax on the scope but it is difficult to get it just right. For .22, I prefer a quality .22 rimfire scope and do away with all the problems. Besides, if you keep the 3-9 you have a good excuse to get another centre fire rifle.

I normally shoot at about 100 yards even with my rimfire. I'd like to try it out first and see how it works out before I consider getting another scope, money is a bit tight right now. I just need to know what mounts I need and stuff.

One assembly note to keep in mind if using dovetail mounts - consider using a 1" wood dowel (assuming you have 1" rings) to 'turn' the ring into its locked position. Using the scope to do this can twist the scope in ways it is not meant to be abused.

Scopes are something I've always wondered about myself.
Is there a standard between brands? Do they work metric or imperial?

In Call of Duty, you just have to buy it and it shows up on the guys gun.
:D

ther is several standard adjustments , 1/8th MOA, 1/4MOA, 1cm , and .1Mil , so those break down to 1/8"", 1/4" 1 cm and .36" adjustments at 100yards and every scope iv ever seen will adjust in one of these incriments then you can get into mixing and matching reticals, etc and so on, there is lots of learning to understand them 100% but the are pretty simple
