New Sherlock Holmes Movie - Antiques galore!

Just in case you like seeing the Irish RIC and other old antique revolvers (I think a velodog as well, or some other folding trigger small cal revolver), the new Sherlock Holmes movie features quite a few in action and closeup. Plus it's a pretty well put together movie!


Bonus points for spotting and identifying other guns!

Definitely is.

Just for example, in the first 60 seconds there are an RIC, S&W top break, and some sort of lever action shotgun.

Was watching some of the old Sherlook Holmes movies from the 1940s a month or so ago, and Watson was using a Colt 1878 - any 1878's in the new flicks?

I'm not sure - I'm no great whiz at identification. I'd be willing to say that there probably is one, there are loads of different guns.

In the novels Watson would occasionally be asked by Sherlock to bring along his old service pistol. So it should be something a British officer would have during the late 1800's.

It would be something a British or even Irish gentleman would have during the late 1800's.

I thought Holmes used the Metropolitan Police, not the RIC?

Most of the handguns used by Holmes and Watson were Webley's from what I remember of watching it in theaters.

The models were not specified in the novels. Holmes rarely used a gun himself, I'm pretty sure he did on the rare occasion. I guess for a dramatization any period piece that an English gentleman would wield would be accurate.

That does it. I have a whole series of Sherlock Holmes 1940's movies on DVD I havn't watched yet. Now I will soon, you got me interested.
