Shilen Rifles, Inc. Returns to Rifle Manufacturing!

assembly_large.jpg

"After a hiatus of nearly twenty years, Shilen Rifles, Inc. is proud to announce their return to the rifle manufacturing market. After several years of painstaking research and development, Shilen is now producing complete rifles that will fill the need of any accuracy minded shooter.

Each rifle's foundation is a CNC precision crafted stainless steel action. Actions are available in either a DGR (D@#% Good Repeater) or a DGV (D@#% Good Varminter) configuration. Both are immediately available for right and left-hand shooters. Both actions have a 1.350" diameter and feature 8-40 scope base mounting screw holes. The bolts are spiral fluted, have a floating bolt head, an interchangeable bolt handle knob and are available in most common bolt faces. Each will be offered with a .300" pinned recoil lug for added stability. These actions feature a footprint similar to the Remington Model 700 and will accept many aftermarket components."

Looks like Shilen is blending the best of two action philosophies - the floating bolt head and barrel nut of the Savage to headspace and control the lock up of the action. Also, allows all the options common to the Savage for swapping bolt heads to change chamberings.

The exterior footprint, bottom metal parts and trigger options of the Rem 700.

A blend of the best of both worlds. Very interesting indeed.

NOTE: I am not a firearms dealer and cannot offer these actions for sale.

THIS IS GREAT NEW!
New from Shilen: Custom Rem 700 Clone Actions and Complete Rifles with Savage-Style Barrel Nut System

After a hiatus of nearly twenty years, Shilen Rifles, Inc. has returned to the rifle manufacturing market. After several years of development, Shilen is now offering custom actions ($950.00), barreled custom actions with triggers ($1500.00), and complete rifles ($3200.00 and up).

There's more stuff being imported into Ontario through a new firearms dealer. Broughton barrels and Pierce Engineering actions that is beginning in a week or 2. There will also be the option of custom builds here in Ontario. Stay tuned. Things are going to get better here.

Well done John. Look forward to the news.

how did you convince Broughton to offer you barrels in our lifetime?

went there, didn't feel 6 to 8 month waits were my cup of tea.

But if they can speed up the process, another excellent choice to add to the mix.

As to the shilen actions, no idea. Was very tempted to offer them but the total needs to get licensed to offer firearms is more then I care to undertake at this time.

I will contact Shilen and see if they have had any contact from Cdn FFL dealers. if there is a Cdn dealer interested, let me know so I can direct you to the right people.

I will continue to offer their barrels and triggers...

I chuckled at the hammer in the picture. Whoever took that picture should have known better.

Price and reputation will decide for me.

That is a precision Stanley hammer don't you know... perfect for bedding jobs, touching up the crown a little, adjusting trigger pull, lining up rings...

I have big reservations about that action. Whatever good that blend gives us they regressed in gas handling capabilities. There is no front end bushing (donut) on the bolt like Remington's to expand and seal the chamber when cartridge brass head gives up and no second baffle behind locking lugs like Savage's to seal off the bolt race ways also there are no holes made in front of the receiver ring for the gases to escape. The concept is very interesting but those issues must be addresed first. As it is, this is not a safe action and I will pass, thank you.

Great observation.

I will pass on the thought to Shilen and see what they have to say.

Maybe preproduction pic but yes, no vent holes visible.

Would assume the bolt head is recessed like the Savage and Rem. Also the barrel may have a recessed chamber like the Rem so that would duplicate the Rem 3 ring steel concept.

The rear of the bolt would be similar to a Rem which has served well for decades.

The only obvious missing thing is the side vent holes.
