I'm a noob, little experience. Curious about the differences between the CZ 75 SP-01 and the CZ 97? What would you recommend for a rookie looking to develop target skills and overall experience:HFU:?

Thanks

CZ75 is always a great start. A Shadow is even better.

Had a CZ97 and didn't like it. Thought it was really unbalanced and top heavy, plus the price of 45 if not reloading was too much for me. If you need a 45, a 1911 would probably be a better design. This is just me, maybe the 97b is someone's fave, just wasn't mine.

Go hold a few. Cabelas has new Sig226's for $879, backordered. Selling my CZ75 due to my Sig226 aquisition.

the shadow is good $ value for a 1st centre fire . it will work for bullseye @ 20/25yds , very good for ppc duty & ipsc production. a straight 75 might be better for odpl [ weight wise ] , & prob just as good for all of the above . your prob better to hold off on the 45 until you can handle the 9 , the learning curve will suit you better not to mention the cost .

Really apples to oranges since the only connection is that they are both CZ's. One's 9mm and the other .45acp.

I vote for some flavour of 9mm just to keep it cheaper to shoot.

Actually given your statement "......a rookie looking to develop target skills and overall experience." I'd strongly recomend a nice .22 like a Ruger 22/45 or Browning Buckmark or S&W 22A. You'll learn more for cheaper and learn it better and sooner than with either of the other two guns.

I tried every dam pistol I could get my hands in 4 different gun stores and found CZ Shadow was almost custom made for my hand + its all metal ,have trouble with tupper wear on my guns .Great value for the price point & i realy wanted a bottom rail,9mm is deffinatly the way to go unless your independantly wealthy.

Really?
I have 4 guys (taking my classes) going from 226 to Shadow within their first 2-6 months, without looking back, none to go the reverse route.
Are you shooting at least somewhat competitively?

Sig and CZ are 2 different guns, designed for different purposes.

The CZ is probably the easiest handgun I've ever had the pleasure to shoot, in terms of being able to shoot it well in very short order, with very little ammo. And the trigger of the Sp-01 Shadow, for a factory trigger, is absolutely delightful.

A Ruger Target MK II is also a really nice pistol in 22 LR ... I've found the MKII to be more reliable than the newer MK III. Bull barrel, stainless, cheap ammo, fairly accurate, what's not to love?

Just like the Sig better. Larger grip, better balance, for me anyway. I'm not looking for a competition pistol. To each their own. Got rid of the CZ's, bought 2 Sigs, HK USP 40 and a 357mag 686.

Pretty soon a Glock guy is going to chime in...

Let the OP buy whatever he likes best. This is an individual thing, period. What's right for one person, isn't for another. I do recommend a CZ75 as it's a good gun. I just like others better.

Best advice to give: If you have friends that shoot, try their guns, as many as possible and your question will be answered. Don't think you have to buy a CZ. Don't buy a 45 to start out with.

When you find out what you want, check new prices and ones on the EE here, there are some people flying above the clouds (dreamers) and some pretty good deals. Just have to look.
