I just got my PAL, I'll be getting a Stoeger 3500 when it comes in this week and I plan to get some range time for familiarization. I'll be mainly using this to hunt starting with Turkeys and Deer, later moving on to waterfowl if I have the time and money.

I've been shooting some skeet with a borrowed gun but have yet to fire anything with actual recoil. I really want to run through three types: Turkey Shot, Buckshot and Slugs. I'll probably buy some 3.5'' Waterfowl shotshells to give them a spin.

So far I have this list:

Turkey:
  • Hevi-Shot Hevi-13 - 3" No.6
  • Winchester Supreme High Velocity

Buckshot:
  • Winchester Buckshot Loads Super X - 3" Buffered and 3" Magnum
  • Remington Express Buckshot

Slugs:
  • Rackmaster Slug - 3"
  • Remington Rifled Slug - 3"
  • Remington High Velocity Rifled Slug - 3"

I'm also wondering about patterning my shotgun. I live in the GTA region so I have to get out to a range (most likely silverdale). Most distances are set at 25 and 50 yards so how would I pattern at the recommended 40 yard distance? Would I have to find some crown land and do it myself?

I would definitely appreciate any help that can be given. I really want to be ready and setup by the time hunting season comes around.

Wherever you go make sure that you find out your Point Of Impact, both for turkeys and deer, this is more important then finding out choke tube percentages.

both good choices for turkey load. those are the 2 i pattern best with (heavi shot slightly better) patterning it was expensive though lol.

Good to know! How many shots should be taken to determine how consistently it patterns? Did you use 3" or 3.5"?

For turkey i use fedral permium #6 with the flightcontrol wad

For slugs, i shot sabot slugs, Fedral Fusion

I won't be getting a rifled barrel so sabots are out but I'll take a look at the Federal Premiums. Thanks!

edit: Would those be the Mag-Shock's with Flight Control?
