After a week of cleaning cosmo, learning to field strip my rifle, and tracking down ammo and other supplies, I finally got out to the range to test my SKS. Put 20 rounds down range at about 25 meters right from go firing from both prone and standing and managed consistent 3" groups a couple of inchs high and off to the right. Next 20 rounds were 100 meters and although the groupings were a little bit "larger" they were still hitting consistently high and right. Seeing as its my first time shooting in about 16 years I was happy with the results. Noticed a couple of things. Shooting past 100m will be a ##### cause I was squinting hard enough already. It ain't a C7 or FN by any means. I remember it being a hell of alot easier to squeeze the trigger on those. Not complaining though, just an observation. I also don't remember it being as loud as it was, maybe I'm getting old. Who knows, ear protection is on the way. Next weekend I'll be heading back out with a couple of sandbags and a sight tool to see if I can zero in the rifle and get that grouping down a bit.

Most SKS's have a fairly heavy and gritty trigger, and they do bark a little with the 20" barrel. They also have pretty coarse sights so all these things are normal. Good to see your gettin back in the saddle, I took the winter off and felt like a newbie this spring haha. You might be even more impressed with groups off the bench, my bone stock '54 Tula shot a decent 2.5" off the bench @100m with cheap surplus ammo. Mine was high and right too by a few inches

When I was buying cleaning supplies the other day at Wholesale, I struck up a conversation about the sks with one of the guys behind the counter. He was in the Bosnian army in the early 90's and he pretty much grew up with the rifle. He swears that they can hit accurately out to about 350m in the hands of the right person.
