New SKS front site post way over?

Just got my first SKS. Finish is flawless.

One thing I did notice is that the front site post is cranked all over to the right side. It looks really weird.

Is this normal? Are the guns sighted already and this might be just how it is, or should I order a sight adjustment tool before I take it out in case it is adjusted wrong?

Did you get it from CT? Not that it matters....

My SKS was exactly like that. Shoot it, if your shots are to the left of where your aiming, center it a bit more. Had to do that with mine.

Some of mine are like that, they can be a real pain to move even with a sight adjustment tool, you may need to soak the sight with penetrating oil or get quite forceful to get the insert to move initially.

I guess I won't really know until I shoot it... The real problem would be if it shoots right I guess, because it looks like it is already maxed to the right side adjustment, lol.

I use the penetrating oil. Then lay it on it's side with the barrel and top of the sight hood supported and using a punch tap on it using progressively harder hits till it moves. Once loosened up then it is easier to adjust using the sight adjustment tool. I have seen this before and I just adjust it to center and seems to shoot fine. Don't know why they are over to the side sometimes. Maybe a final adjustment in the refurb process not completed maybe.

Depends I think. The ones with the sight too far to the left are Monday morning refurbs (hung over) the ones too far to the right are Friday afternoon refurbs (drink time in 30 minutes!)

^^^^ What he said. Give it a real good soak with penetrating oil, AND make sure it moves BEFORE you go to the range. Sometimes you need to give it a few good taps with a hammer and drift. It can be dried up and seized for many decades. People break their new adjustment tools because they did not do this. make sure it moves BEFORE you go to the range

Before you try moving the sight left/right, shoot 10rds quick... its meant to be adjusted when warm/hot, and is very tight at normal temps. This allows adjustment at the range, but is locked down the whole rest of the time.

At least this is what we were told and it worked for us.

What is the position of the rear sight?
Can you get a pic of what the complete sight alignment reference to the barrel and receiver etc.
Maybe a front on view, top view and from the rear. If the rear sight block is say canted to the right then the front has to be to the right as well.

Agree with make sure you can move it first before going to the range.

It is likely the angle at which the font sight is positioned on the barrel. I have an Norinco NC-5d exactly like that and when looking at it closely the front sight is angled a bit therefore the post had to compensate. Easier than removing whole front sight. Mine shots on so left it alone. You may need to readjust the whole front sight but real pain to get off. Shot it see how bad it is first. My 2 cents.
