Well is it odd to step; out to Wendy's for lunch away from work and come back with a Russian SKS?? Well the story is I went to Wendy's on my lunch break, had a craving, an d when I came out the drive through I noticed the parking lot at the "Gun Shoppe" was empty so I popped in since i had a couple questions about getting an SKS or a 305. When I went in it was quiet so I went up to the owner, I have been there many times, and asked if he had any 305's or M4's or SKS's. He said he was out of everything. He then said hold on and went into the office. When he came out he had a Russin SKS in his hand and told me it was on hold for someone but the guy had not come back and it had been some time. I picked it up and liked what I saw, he looked at me and said it was mine for 200 bucks rightnow since this guy seemed to be dicking around. Well out came the plastic and it is now sitting in front of me waiting for teardown, ammo, and a warmer day.

Trigger feel decent, stock is nice darker wood with a couple minor surface blemishes, and I liek the novelty of the flip up bayonet. I am thinking about a synthetic stock FOR ANOTHER ONE I FOUND and I like the idea of a bipod but hate to lose the bayonet. What are the mods people have done besides those stickied? Anyone got pics of theirs with different stock options??

Sorry man but it kills me when I hear about someone sticking these beauties in a synthetic stock. If ya gotta bubba one up maybe you could buy a cheap norc or something? I know these ruskies aren't highly collectable but they are a nice piece of history. Anyway its your gun so you can do what you want but I like the look of the wood stock myself.

If you do go the tacticool route try and do it so you can undo it later in case you want to go back. There are several different stocks out there for it, just google sks stock and you'll find lots. Good luck with it.

Cheers

BTW- at 200$ you did well on your purchase. Buy yourself a case of ammo and blast away.

Pick up the case of ammo next week on payday. I am not looking to do this one but another one I have found, chinese I believe. I really don't want to lose the bayonet and I liek the darker color this stock has.

Nice finding!

Yeah, I have to agreed with juanvaldez you did great for $200.

Is that a Bell or IZH (black or silver bolt carrier)?

Do you mind to post some pics so we can see the condition of your new rifle?

Cheers

Aftermarket Stocks

The nice thing with SKS rifles is that you can put the "guts" of the rifle in a new plastic stock ie ATI dragunov or montecarlo and be able to switch back to the original if you wish.

Finding a new toy at lunch....I do not find it ODD. I sat at my desk and ordered 3 rifles from 2 different dealers one morning that I found while surfing CGN. This wasn't the first time and probably won't be the last.

Nice find. Enjoy your new toy.

Congrats on the toy! I'll echo everybodies reply by saying...leave the russian alone. The SKS is a lot of fun and can easily be moded. For the longest time in Canada we haven't seen any russians at all, so as a result most collectors prize these models. Get a cheap chinese and go at 'er. This one has the cheese grater, butt extension, cover mount and scope, with bedliner and custom cheek riser and bipod. It's a 150.00 dollar gun and quite common. Mind you the stock is the only non reversable item. Cheers

Thanks everyone!! Well I am "outed" at work now as a gun owner. One of the guys saw me pull back into work and I was covering it up and sticking it up under the back seat of my Yukon when he walked up and saw it. I ended up being mauled by questions all afternoon. I didn't mind and a couple of the guys were thinking about getting their licence and taking the course so I was able to answer alot of their questions. I hope I added to the new gun owners by talking to them and firing them up. \
I did explain as well though the great lengths I have gone to at home to service, store, and secure my firearms and ammo against theft and my kids getting to them.
I have found a chinese that I really want to "trick out" like in emmab's post. I really like the stock and scope mount.

PICS OF MINE COMING!!!!!!!

sweeeet .... non-paint carrier and lam wood for $200 , thats a good deal . you should take more lunch break .:D

I looked at that one soon after they got them in. Its a very lightly refurbed 56 Tula with laminated stock and hardwood upper wood. Bore looked excellent on it. Should be a good rifle for ya! It was either that rifle or an Izzy... I took the Izzy!

It is a nice piece and after stripping it down it is very lightly used one at that. I am thrilled and now have the fever to get a chinese customed up as a bush gun. Oh well the old camera will do for a while longer!!!!!!

Oh well I'm keeping it so I might as well have some fun with it, the damn thing will not come apart though, the cover won't come off. . . I don't want to shoot corrosive in it unless I can get it apart obviously. I wonder why they painted them, weird, is there any way to tell if it's got a threaded barrel or pinned in there? It appears to be a late production Tula example.
