I just received my SKS from Marstar, bought it with the ammo deal. looks great, now I am going to use the thread above for disassembly and cleaning. Then out to the range this weekend.
BTW this is an awesome forum.

Welcome to the club! Disassembly/reassembly is pretty easy once you've done it a couple of times. The stock is still pretty tight on my Russian, so I still need a screwdriver to pry it out, but at least I have been able to put it back in the stock without the rubber mallet the last couple of times. The firing pin retaining pin still needs both an auger punch and a pin punch (you can get'em at crappy tire). I drilled a large hole in a scrap 6" piece of 2x4 and the pin head goes over the hole when I drive the pin out. Make sure the safety's on (up) when you take out and put in the trigger group.

Methyl hydrate and a turkey pan are the best way to get the cosmoline out. Then you can just blow it out with compressed air and the methyl hydrate is easier to dispose of than kerosene. Just make sure you use gloves and do it outside.

Yeah I figured it looked pretty clean after an hour or so of cleaning with mineral spirits. I need a brighter light in my work area:-( Later today I will do some fine scrubbing to get the rest of the crap out. It looks like I am going to need a mallet to seat the trigger assembly, it's pretty tight.

Just make sure that the safety is flipped up and that the receiver is seated all the way down into the stock. On my rifle, I've needed the mallet to get the receiver into the stock the first 15-20 times. On my buddy's, it would go in hand pressure only, but the trigger group would require a love tap.
