I just got my new Springfield RO 1911 ,.45ACP and the slidestop is almost impossible to release.
I’ve had a few 1911,s and could release the slide, easily ,with my shooting hand.
This one, I have to move the slide all the way back ( take the pressure off) to release.

Also the mag slides about 3/4 of the way in and then has a lot of resistance to fully insert.

Is this a DIY or do I need warranty involved?

It was also very difficult to reinstall the slide stop,on reasemmby.418A6962-D8DA-47CB-BAF7-9333C1B28388.jpg

UuThe Springfield Armory Range Officer uses match grade frame, slide and barrel. This means they are fitted very tightly. Yours may also have a heavyweight 18.5 lb spring and that could also contribute to a stiff slide lock.

To release the slide, you are already using the correct technique, the slingshot method. (Rack the slide to release the slide stop)

I bought a used SA Loaded (older version with adjustable rear sight) and it also employs NM (I assume this means national match) frame/slide/barrel.

With about 2,500 rounds through it, the frame/slide/barrel fit is still super tight. I’m probably 3000 rounds away from having a slick action. The slide stop is still very tight to remove and install. I don’t have to use the slingshot method.

As far as the tight mag, have you tried other mags?

How about wiping some oil on the mag and exercise it in and out a few hundred times?
You may want to remove the magazine release to it and the mag from unnecessary wear.
The RO’s frame is probably machined to tight tolerances all around, so some wearing is needed.

You will rewarded with long life, accuracy, reliability and the satisfaction of knowing you own a quality well built 1911.

This thing is tighter than a ducks arse:)
I can’t release the slide stop unless I use two hands.

If it had a burr in there ,wouldn’t it leave scratches on the mags?

Both mags are really snug

Remove the slide and look down the magwell from above. Press the release in. Are there any protruding parts of the mag release visible in the magwell? If so, note which side and how much. Remove the mag release from the frame and observe what's going on as you insert a mag. Is it still getting hung up? Is from the trigger bow etc? If it inserts and falls out freely without the mag release, it's a simple job of slowly removing material off the release and reinstalling it a number of times until it fits.

I’ll look into that.

They slide in smooth until 3/4 way then they have more friction.
Nothing gritty just about 3 times more friction.

They drop out freely.
