After much deliberation, I picked up a new SR22 Rifle Saturday. I added a set of Weaver X-High rings, and a 2-7x scope. Well me and my 10 year old son took it to the range yesterday, and he shot nearly a whole 555 brick of Winchester bulk, plus some Winchester Dynapoints, and American Eagle. Needless to say it received a hectic break in :D I knew that I was going to have to do the bolt release mod, and add some new trigger parts, but when I got home I decided to switch out the trigger group from my 10/22 that has a Volquartsen trigger, hammer, sear, and is metal- not plastic. What a difference! Now I'm going to have to get some new parts to rebuild the SR's trigger group which is very gritty and heavy, but I'll tell you one thing, the rifle feels very nice now with a much better trigger. What does the future hold for the SR22? Well I am planning on adding an Aimpoint clone with a magnifier, or a Millett 1-4 and add a secondary red dot. I am very happy with the rifle, I like that they come with extended mag releases, heavy barrel, and the fact that the gun does not feel cheap. The chassis is very well made, and I have absolutely no regrets buying this rifle. My little guy loves it. The collapsible stock is short enough he can get behind the rifle, and he never stopped smiling all day! That alone is priceless ;) I foresee there being some IPSC Mini-rifle matches in NB in the near future.

I'm weary of clone red dots. Ive had several and all were sub-standard quality. None were bright enough to use outside, some had adjustments that didnt work or worked intermitently, all had poor quality glass and short battery life. I would recommend something like the Bushnell TRS-25 for a micro red dot, at $130 they are a solid value thats bright enough to use outside, the adjustments actually move POI and Bushnell states a 3000 hour battery life.

I have a friend that recommended the Bushnell to me. Any idea what type of riser I would need for it to get it to a good height off of the rail?

Supernova nailed it on the cheap red dots, stay away. The busnell red dots are great. On my sr22 build I used a bushnell red/green t-dot, very nice height on the rail, and has the coolness factor of looking a little tactical like a trijicon, there are a few for sale right now in the EE.

Thanks for the tips guys! I am going to check and see what I can find locally, and if no luck, I will look at ordering in a new Bushnell.
