hello all, I just got my first over under shotgun and it happend to be the stevens 512 it is a nice looking gun and seemes to shoot very well but I find it a brute to break open even after 200 shots and a good take down and cleen/loob it still is verry tough to break open all the way is their any how to tips for me to soften it up thanks.

Hello. I've had a 512 since march and have put about 1600 rounds through it. Mine opened hard too, it'll loosen up. Most any O/U is tight when new. FYI I had a fireing pin break in mine two weeks ago. Have a new one on the way from Savage. No worries, all guns break.
a couple of guys i know each bought 512's, i chose the more expensive SAVAGE Milano, both the 512's have had firing pin issues and one has had nothing but problems, they are nice looking guns but you cannot compare them to the milano in my opinion
I had a 512 for about a year and recently sold it. 
Mine was stiff too, but it loosened up nicely after a case of ammo was shot through it. Mine providid excellent service with no malfunctions...great little gun for the money. Good luck with it and enjoy!!
