New Steyr Scout RFR

This is one of those rare threads whose title practically gave me whiplash when I read it. A rimfire Steyr Scout? Where's my wallet???

Then I saw that it wasn't really a good rimfire understudy for my centerfire Scout, but rather a straight-pull bolt. Still cool; not the companion piece I had pictured, but definitely still appealing.

But $2000? No thanks, I can likely get a genuine Scout in .223 for that much if I keep my eyes open. If not, I'll survive without.

Are there any dealers in Canada bringing these in? It looks very much like the issc spa action. Is it a issc in a different stock?

They also have a new bolt action steyr I think it's called the zepyhr or something like that. Hmmmm......id like to see these two rifles

A new Steyr Zephyr...

The Steyr Zephyr II bolt-action rimfire rifle is more conventional in outline and design, with its five-rounds magazine and its classic wooden stock with checkered grip and handguard. Thre Steyr Zephyr II will be available in three calibers – once again, those are .17 HMR, .22 Long Rifle and .22 WMR. The projected retail price of the Steyr Zephyr II will be made public upon release of the rifle to the international markets, which is scheduled for Autumn 2016

Not quite as graceful as the original... Hopefully, spare magazines will be readily available for this one.

I was pleased to receive my Canada Ammo package this morning (I love getting packages from those guys) and in it was a copy of "Calibre". (The Canadian Firearm Magazine) and on page 50 is an advertisement for the Steyr RFR for .............$849 Canadian, not U$D. Yes under a grand!!!

Looks like the best surprise you'll ever get from Steyr! At $2000 I was a passer, but at sub $1000 I am in. (Only disappointment was no .17 Mach 2, this really is a dying caliber, such a shame. With the ammo drought I think I am up for a several thousand round purchase if the price is right).

So now is the challenge of choosing a calibre, I have too many .22LR's, and I don't have much use for a .17HMR or 22 WINMAG, but if anyone has one already, please do a review / post some pics.

Candocad.

A friend of mine has one of those Steyrs, bought recently from Prophet River if I recall correctly. We were shooting gophers yesterday and he is pleased.

I tried it. It's more money than I will spend on a .22rimfire (or almost any gun, to give you some context) but if I were going to pay that much, I wouldn't be unhappy to end up with one of those.

It's made by ISSC and Steyr only put a Scout-ish stock on it and charge more. It certainly does not have any of the unique features of a Steyr Scout.
