New Stock for a Model Seven - Re-Barrel too?

Giving some new life to a model seven in 308 win, wanting to keep it light but still a practical hunting rifle. Not looking to change the chambering and it shoots 1-1.25 MOA as is so I am fine with that for a hunting rifle. Looking at putting a wildcat stock on this one but wondering if maybe its worth spinning a new barrel on at the same time. Not a fan of the factory stock and that's the biggest change I am looking at. If anything it would be a .308 22" barrel but not sure if its worth doing?
 
A new stock has a way of dressing things up!
If your good with 1-1.5moa a new barrel that might shoot sub-moa probably won’t turn your crank very much,
Especially on a mod 7which tend to be shorter lighter carbine size guns anyway.
Seems like the point of a new barrel would be greater accuracy at long range. Build a heavy barrel M700 for that IMO.
 
I went with a B&C stock for my model 7. It's really nice and fits me perfectly. A little thick in the wrist like all B&C's but otherwise really good for the money. I would have gone with a wildcat but I simply couldn't afford it. I bet they're really nice and worth the asking price. Maybe if you were doing an ultralight build with this then the barrel upgrade would be worthwhile but I'd leave it as is with the accuracy you're getting. The new stock will likely improve things in that department anyway.
 
HS Precision makes a good stock also.
For an M7 308, I would stay with a 16.5", 18.5" or 20" barrel max, no need for a 22".
 
Another vote for wildcat (ultralight version) especially with the factory barrel, most other options are too butt heavy to balance with the factory skinny barrel.
 
I have a couple Wildcat stocks on M7's and there Excellent ! I also have one M7 with a Mac Edge stock and i Like it also ! I have owned Both B&C stocks witch are thick in the wrist and much heavier ! and also HS which makes a Better stock then B&C - not thick in the wrist but still Heavier also then Wildcat and Mac's ! do you have a 18.5 " or 20 " barrel ? I like the 20 " ! jmo RJ

Those JC Custom bbls are good shooters and CDN made. I have one in 308 on a 700 action. VG shooter.

I think you have a good plan.
 
Sorry to revive an old thread but I finally pulled the trigger to upgrade this gun. It will wear a 22" #2 contour barrel from K&S arms as well as a wildcat stock, swapping the trigger for a trigger tech too. I decided on upgrading everything since I intend to hunt and keep this rifle forever and maybe some day my kids will hunt with it. It will still wear the VX3 2.5-8 scope that it always has.

Those who put wildcat stocks on their model 7's, did you go with the standard fill or the ultralight? I am torn between the two since ideally I want the rifle to balance well vs front heavy. I went with a slightly longer barrel than the stock 20" remington, I like other rifles I have at the 22" barrel length and didn't find the 20" was that much handier to carry etc.
 
HS Precision would be the stock I would choose, followed by Brown Precision. If you were to re-barrel, a 260 Remington would be my choice.
 
My bro just got a wildcat put on his rem 700 280. I replaced the trigger with a triggertech. He went with the lightweight. Great stock great fit well balanced. Just plain best stock I’ve seen and held. Workmanship is top notch. You will not be disappointed.
I would rebarrel while you’re at it. 284win. Ron Smith barrel 22”.
 
I have a wildcat stock on my 300 SAUM model 7. It is the ultralight and balances perfectly. You will not be sad going with the ultralight. There were a lot of tips and tricks I learned along the way. My rifle weight 7 pounds without any ammo. Nice for packing and shoots well also.
 
I thought I'd pretty up one of my model 7's and installed a high gloss pepper laminate stock.

What a mistake, looks gorgeous but weighs an incredible amount that makes the rifle worthless to me.

To make it worse I sold the lightweight synthetic stock while the heavy piece of lumber was enroute to my home
