Hey everyone I need some opinions or help finding a dealer for aftermarket stocks for my 700 sps varmint. Any knowledge or experiences would be appreciated. I am looking at HS precision, McMillan or Choate I notices mystic precision had some new choates. Thanks for any help on the subject.

Depending on what you want to use your rifle for, the H.S. Precision is nice and stiff and relatively light. I did not like the ergonomics much, and I purchased a Choate Tactical. Much better ergos for prone shooting. It is built very solidly and has given me great accuracy, but it is a little heavy and bulky. I would not want to haul it long distances. It isn't a McMillan or a Robertson, but it didn't cost anywhere near as much either.

Hey thanks for the reply it is for target and varmint hunting mostly prone or bench those will do just fine I was looking at the choate tactical on mystic precision.

No I haven't but I am going to have a look now and see what they are all about thanks for the name it gives me somewhere to look.

Robertson are superb and made in Canada. They also support Canadian shooting sports in a big way. Can't rave enough about them.

JW Precision also sells Manners, a very good composite stock with inletting for Remmy and in many great tactical styles.

Ian makes a great stock. The HS is good too, as is McMillan, Borden, Brown, and Wildcat. Choat is ok, but not in the same league (and yes, I have or have had stocks from all of the above). MPI is hit and miss, and usually need more finishing work. If you prefer a laminate, look at Boyds or Richards Microfit. FWIW - dan

Im in the same boat with a 700 sps and am strongly considering the AICS. Its a bit expensive but when you consider that it comes with adjustable cheek piece and a magazine (which saves having to get bottom metal if you want mag feed and didnt get the 700 DM) and an aluminium chassis that doesnt need bedding, the price is pretty good.

I've had the Choate Ultimate Varmint - good stock for the money - on a Savage and run both AICS 1.5 and AICS 2.0 on a pair of Remington's. I also have McMillan A5. FWIW I think the AICS is the best of the aftermarket stocks but that's not to knock the McM which is also very good indeed. Friends also run the MDT chassis which they are very happy with and may well be worth looking at.

I have an Accuracy International AICS stage 2.0 and use 2 actions on it.
I'm extremely satisfied with it and does everything I expected (including a big hole in my wallet).

Alex
