Here it goes. I came to the conclusion that the old girl will not see her iron sight any time soon. If I want to shoot 303 with iron sight, I have my 1918 SMLE. I shot it at 300, 500 and 600m, and I managed to touch the target, so I think this one will be my scoped/precision rifle. With the reloading I'm confident I can get better result next time I try those distances.I spend most of my range time sitting at a shooting table, and the stock as it is is not suited for this.

This being said, I had an idea to make a new buttstock. The one I have, even with the cheek riser I made, is a bit low to be comfy. So I took a Remington Sendero my bro in law has, outlined the stock shape on paper, and adapted the shape to the Lee Enfield. I cannot lower the scope, as it sits on one of Gairlochian's mount.

What do you think ? I glued up my wood block, fabrication will begin shortly.

Awww, you should have let him build it first. Learning from your errors builds Character.

The high comb should give a better cheek weld, and the flat underside will help from the bench or ground. You will probably get some comments on it, but if if it looks "weird" and works, it is not "weird."

Glad to see you are not harming the rifle. Original ones are great, but there were so many hundreds of thousands of them that you can't save them all and put them back into original condition. We have to use common sense on it.

Let us know how it works out.

Why don't you simply copy or buy a No4 Mk1*(T) wood cheekpiece and retain the classic line of this nice old lady.

Don't worry, there will be a way to remove the bolt.

And yes, I tought about making a wood block, but it will be as high as my leather cheekpiece, and not help with the rear bag.

You have to realize that SMELLIE majored in History. His thesis on Canadian Small Arms from 1814 to 1914 is still quoted today. And with the stuff that he has squirreled away, I wouldn't be surprised if he could produce an original pair of Queen Victoria's panties.

And since LOUTHE POO noticed the faint lines for the bolt channel, and at 70 years old with the 1000 yard targets getting a bit blurry, perhaps you could press harder on your Crayons so we old farts can see it. :)

It does looks interesting and I do hope it works well. I am sure it will raise a few eyebrows at the range. I will send you a pm on your design.
I just put a scope on a spare No4 Savage and have real problem trying to get a cheek pad high enough to be useful.
Like your mount mine is higher than a real No4 issue mount as I used a non invasive mount as I would NEVER drill into any Lee Enfield.
I don't want to drill into the butt so won't install a reproduction mount and think it would still be a little on the low side.
If anyone has more ideas on a "lace on" or other product that would work please send me a pm.
 
I'll make a groove at the top of the stock. I am currently working on the Mossberg's stocks, but as soon as I'm done with them I'll start the Lee Enfield.

Hi all

I made a prototype in russian birch to find the best and most effective way to build those. The price will be 100$ each shipped. I'll make them in maple, walnut and beech. Buttplate is solid wood, contrasting (walnut for maple and beech, and maple for walnut stock)

All you have to do when you get it is to remove the old stock, adjust the tenon a bit into your action if needed, and screw the new stock in place.

The lenght of pull is 14 inches on this one, a bit long but I can make it the lenght you want. Here are a couple of pics of the prototype (nevermind the ugly stain, I was trying to match a bit the beech wood of my 303)
