New style Vaquero - what's the verdict about it's strength?

I would say that the new vaquero is not as strong due to the smaller cylinder and the fact that that it does not come in a 44 mag version as the old one did

But then the New Vaquero is designed for Cowboy Action Shooting which would not allow .44mag in any case.
Colt would LOVE to see Rugers blow up, but it AIN'T GONNA HAPPEN.:D

John:

The .44 Magnum cartridge is very commonly used in Cowboy Action Shooting!

The SASS (Single Action Shooting Society) Shooter Handbook caliber specifications, for both rifles and revolvers to be used in main match stages, state:

• Must be centerfire of at least .32 caliber and not larger than .45 caliber.
• Must be in a caliber commonly available in revolvers. Examples include, but are not limited to, .32-20, .32 Magnum, .357 Magnum, .38 Special, .38-40, .44-40, .44 Special, .44 Magnum, and .45 Colt.
(The rifle specs do also go on to say: "The only allowed exceptions are the .25-20 and .56-50. No rifle calibers such as .30-30 or .38-55 are allowed.")

SASS rules are followed in at least 90-95% of all Cowboy Action Shooting - it is only the much smaller National Congress of Old West Shootists (NCOWS) which insists on "period correct" cartridges and firearms.
