Never thought I would ever have the desire to own one of these, but thanks to the #billsentme movement I decided to jump aboard with gusto !

Hoping my Bravo Company M4 will be on the next truck from I Run Guns in Arizona.

I am a firm believer of "buy once, cry once" and "half measures cost twice as much" so I don't mind ponying up extra cash for quality.

I've heard good things about Magpul P mags as well as the Lancer L5s .... but that is about it.

As I am quite unfamiliar with A/Rs, what are your recommendations ?

Follow up question, who has stock in Canada right now (or should I place another order with I Run Guns) ?

I can't bring myself to run 5 round mags (pistol mags only) so that limits my options.

Food for thought.

Get 10/30 LAR Metal mags. They’re hard to come by but worth the effort.

Like Sniffer said, 5 rounds can be a killjoy. Lancers, Hex and PMags are great.....in certain States of the USA.

ummm OK. So this is where my ignorance shows (I'm an F-Class type person).

Is what you are saying is that instead of using a mag that is designated to A/R 15 (and thereby has to be pinned to 5 round capacity by law), I could use a mag that is designated as a pistol mag (and is thereby pinned to 10 round capacity by law) in my M4 ?

Bingo, the only caveat is that it has to be one of the specifically designated “LAR-15 pistol mags” which often only come in a short 10 round body, so to run a full size mag you need to purchase extensions to have that full size 30 round mag feel.
Or as others mentioned, you can now find 10/30 LAR15 mags, although there’s some controversy over those so I’d recommend searching here and drawing your own conclusions as to the “legality” of them. I’d recommend searching the forum for that info though as to not draw the nut jobs out of the woodwork and derail your thread smithereens.

Outside of pistol mags, I run a variety of PMAGS, Lancers & USGI’s. They’re all relatively the same and will work in whatever condition you may throw at them.

Check out the magazine section of True North Arms. They are a page sponsor and have lots of magazine options.

The 30rd body mags that have a 10rd capacity are crimped at 10 instead of the rivet. They are the go to for most people, especially those of us using the NR black rifles from ATRS and MDI.

OK, awesome man thanks. Very informative response. I had no idea there existed pistol mags that would function in an A/R.

I will look into the legality of using one of these mags in my new A/R sometime in the future. For the meantime, I will play it safe and just stick with a mag pinned to 5 rounds..... I identify myself as a F class shooter,so I am accustom to single shot, horizontal feed rules anyways..... 5 rounds and semi-auto is a whole new world me as it is.

Cheers!

I find the LAR-15 10/30 can be too long for some applications so if you can find 10/20 you be happier or join 2 10 rounders with a vedge.

The LAR-15 10/30s don't fit too great on an SLR though. Does it work for most ARs? Maybe if you use them as 9/30s, it'll be fine. I recommend buying one, running with it and seeing if you like it. Before going nuts and buying like a 10 pack.

I ended up with 10 round LAR polymer mags. But if you are worried about the legal aspect of the mags then perhaps "Magpul PMAG 5/30 AR-15 Magazine, .223/5.56, 5 Rounds, Gen M3".

Pmags worked really well with my AR, no issues I actually really enjoy them.

For competition I use PMAG Gen 3 5/30 with Ranger base plates or Lancer 5 AWM 5/30 with mag pulls.

For plinking they sell a base plate adapter to join two, 10-round LAR mags. Replace the followers with
anti-tilt and voila. A funny looking metal boomerang with 20 rounds of .223/5.56mm. YMMV

If you are able to source them, look into the ATRS AT-15 pistol magazines. They are 10rd capacity and where initially made by Command Arms. These are my range magazines.
For competition, I used PMAG 40's.

if you are okay with 5 round mags MAGPUL all day every day all the way and back again. if you want 10 rounders the 10/30 LAR mags are awesome, 10 round stubby mags work too but are a bummer trying to dig out of your mag pouches if you compete
